Check-in; Excellent, particularly because there were many lost pax making their way onto the Ika, who were supposed to be on the Istok, and I was more than happy to escort them over there so I could flirt with the lovely new cookie, Nikola.
Day 1; Mljet (Polace)
Number of pax for dinner; 22 (bbq)
We had a nice sail into Polace, lots of beers and friend-making, and a very nice swim stop. Our bbq was a big success because we ate outside in the lovely evening, and Mama was there being her crazy self, and the Istok was beside us so there were 2 boatloads to meet and chat with. In fact, the boats stuck close together all week (I think the Istok captain was doing me a favour), and it was great because the two groups were basically one. Tonci invited me to the Istok for a few mussels and white fish and wine (deliciously prepared by my new cook). Later that night, as I and two of my girls were strolling around town, we nearly had heart attacks when three cats jumped out of a tree in front of us!
Day 2; Mljet/Korcula
Number of
pax for dinner; 22 (Caenazzo)
It was a bit overcast so the National Park wasn't its prettiest, but people enjoyed it anyway. The sail into Korcula was a little rough, but we made it eventually. We had a good visit with the Cat Man and a few new kittens, and then a good dinner at Caenazzo. After dinner, everyone felt a bit quiet so we planned on only having a drink or two at Dos Locos, but when Nik brought over a litre of cocktail, the party got started. We danced on the pole, did straw-limbo, and then when I was satisfied that my group was having a grand old time, I snuck off to hang out with Nikola and we spoke sweet-nothings to each other for the rest of the night. 😊
Day 3; Hvar
Number of pax for dinner; 22 (picnic)
We had a fantastic swim-stop where we got to snorkel over starfish and coral and urchins, and the Istok pulled up beside us and we ate lunch together.
Later, in Hvar, I decided to do a byo picnic, because the sun has started to set too early and I don't have time to prepare it anymore, which is kinda sad.
My group thoroughly disappointed me at Kiva Bar when they were all less than thrilled to be there. They thought there were too many Aussies and too much John Farnham and for half the night they stood out in the alleyway sulking. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore and I dragged them kicking and screaming into the bar where, when they finally got off their "I'm a traveller not a tourist" high horses, they had a great time, as I'd promised they would.
Day 4; Bol
Number of pax for dinner; 22 (winery)
We had a funny stop at Zlatni Rat today. First, a few of us went on a banana boat ride (much less painful and scary than the biscuits!). Then the current came in and as people were swimming back from the beach to the boat they were getting swept out to sea on their lilos. There were a few rescue missions for the older folk on the tour. Funny times!
Great dinner as always at the winery, but we didn't do the wine tasting as I didn't want to bother Vinko on his final night of running the place. Afterwards, some people walked down to the markets, I hung out with Nikola for a while, and then we all had an early night.
Day 5; Makarska
Number of pax for dinner; 22 (Peskera)
Nikola and I went for a nice coffee in the morning in Bol before the boats headed out to Makarska, where we met up with Damian, Frodo and Alex. I bought a lovely new dress in the markets (what a pain it is to have a boyfriend around ... it makes me actually care about my wardrobe!). Our dinner at Peskera was just okay; service was slow, some people never received their meals, a few sent meals back, and the meals that we did have (particularly my turkey salad) were sub-par. I sat for a drink with the manager afterwards and he's a nice guy, but I really don't know about the future of us going to those restaurants.
GREAT time at Deep Club; the music was awesome, everyone from both the Istok and Ika were there, all of the crews from all of the boats were there, and every 15 minutes or so I got to sneak away to a quiet corner with Nikola. Young, super flambuoyantly gay Italian guys (who weren't gay at all and were hitting on all of my girls); the young boy from the Istok drunk and giggling at one side of the dance floor and quiet Luka, son of the captain from the Ika, dancing up a storm in the middle of the room. Probably the best night, and the latest night, that I've had there and I went to bed at 5;30am feeling great.
Day 6; Omis
Number of pax for dinner; 22 (Captain's Dinner)
Once again, we spent WAY too long in Omis. (We arrived at 10am). I didn't mind, because I got to have a nap and hang out with everyone on the other boats, but our pax were bored silly. Something definitely needs to change with our itinerary so that we don't spend as much (or any) time in Omis.
Great Captain's Dinner and great pirate party. Water bombs, sword fights, boat-raiding, all the usual antics that make us laugh and seriously piss off the captains. Nikola got into it by spraying buckets of water on the people on the dock (some found that annoying, I found it charming and adorable).
Day 7; Split
Number of pax for dinner; 0 (we did our own thing for dinner and met for drinks along the riva)
We had a great climb up to the fort in the morning, then a quick sail to Split. I was beside myself with sadness that night because not only was I saying goodbye to Nikola, but also to the crews of the Ika and Istok, as I knew I wouldn't be on those boats again this season. I have really enjoyed working on those boats, they're 100% the best boats we have and everyone has a great time on them.
Nikola snuck into my room that night at 4am and left me a bouquet of flowers while I was sleeping. Have I mentioned I love him? 😊 😊 (and did I also mention he looks identical to Sasa from Kiva ... What a coincidence!)
This was the best week I've had all year; not only because of my romance with Nikola, but because the boats and crews were at their best, the groups were always together, and everyone had a fun time, had late nights, and did loads of fun stuff. I was sad for it to end.
