All,
Well, I made it to the island of Hvar and back, and I can say that this Island is the real deal. It is just a breathtaking island with old orange-roofed medieval buildings, and a cool little fortress watching over the town from above and just the overall laid back island vibe. I was in heaven for the day.
At the hostel I was staying at, they were advertising for a job working the reception for a week or so and as pay, getting to stay for free, and I almost took them up on it! The hostel was actually one of the coolest I have ever stayed at, it was nestled in the hills above the town, and almost had a bungalow type feel to the rooms, as they were all in separate buildings. I arrived yesterday around 2, and of course, the island that boasts that they have the most hours of sunlight in the world, came up with a cloudy day for me. I just walked around the town, then took a nap, and then after the nap headed back down to the town and made the 20 minute directly uphill trek to the fortress
above the city. It was really cool, and it happened to be right around sunset, so that was an added bonus. Ever since I have had my Letś Go travel book, every time I would scan over the Hvar page, the review of a bistro called Luna caught my eye. The reviewer raved about their moon deck up top, and their fettuccine with salmon. So, on the way down from the fortress I decided to try it out, and it was just as amazing as it was described. It was smoked salmon bits with amazing noodles, and a delicious cream sauce. I will have to try to recreate it when I get back.
Last night, I had a few drinks with a cool Canadian couple from Whistler, BC and then headed out to a couple cool bars right on the harbor. This morning, I woke up early and headed to the beach, before catching the ferry back over to Split. Before leaving I bought this amazing pastry, that was like a strudel with beef and cheese inside, and it was great as well, nice, warm and flaky. I headed back to Split, and then hit the beach over here
one last time, and now it is time to just kill some hours before the ferry over to Italy.
Hvar was actually the halfway point of the trip, and I can honestly say that It feels just about right, it isn't going fast or slow, it just feels around 3 weeks. I am so glad I decided to take the ferry over to this island. I will definitely be back at some point. Pictures will be posted for this blog in the next few days, when i get the disposable developed and burned onto a CD. until then, here are some links of where I was:

Hope your ferry to Italy went ok. I'm guessing you didn't have time to stop in Slovenia? Sounds like Hvar hit the spot and Luna did you right Maybe I will give them a call and try to make reservations for 500 men, just like Space in the STL. Aren't you heading up to Scandinavia before attending Octoberfest? Maybe you'll get a grat deal on an Ikea bookcase or some wooden shoes. Blues camp started today at 9:30am and there were some great live radio interviews with Kariya, MacInnis, JD, Berglund, Tkachuk, Plager, etc. on the radio all day. It crazy that we already play the Predleys at home this Sunday night. We're all heading down south tomorrow for camping and canoeing all weekend. It's actually a cool 65 degrees here at night now. Keep having a great time and be sure to meet as many travelers as possible. I'll talk to you from Florence.
