Or in other words Croatia and that's where I am at the moment.
On Tuesday I took the train to Zagreb with the idea of catching the onward connection to Split, but the train was late so I had a 4 hour stop over in Zagreb. Of course I used this to wander through the city... There are loads of museums, but since I am poor and didn't have much time I didn't go in any of them. It also has a quaint old centre.
Next I got the train to Split and arrived there quite late but there was somebody waiting at the station offering me a room. And since it wasn't expensive I agreed. The guy was training for the European championships swimming, so he swam 14 km's a day... Just the thought of it made me tired and so I decided to get a beer and go to bed...
Split is a very nice town, the center is actualy built inside Emperor Diocletian’s palace... For those who aren't history buffs... He was a Roman Emperor around A.D. 300... Anyway, when the barbarians invaded, the inhabitants from the country side fled into his palace and as
the centuries passed build a whole town inside the grounds... Diocletian is probably rolling around in his Mausoleum in disgust, especially since it was turned into a church and he persecuted the Christians big time... Kind of ironic when you think of it...
Anyway after this it was of to Dubrovnik with it's still intact medieval city walls and it's marble streets... But oh so expensive this place... a real tourist trap... Tomorrow I leave for Kotor in Montenegro...
