I'm currently sitting by the window watching a lovely thunderstorm. There is nothing better than reading a good book, sitting curled up on the couch, and listening to the rain. It's not quite as good as the one we had the other day (where we lost power, about 10 screen windows blew out into the backyard etc), but it's still a good storm. It's a nice break in the weather too - it's not boiling for once.
I can't believe the camps already half done... these volunteer stints always go by so fast, it's sad.
Yesterday afternoon we ended up bringing the kids some balloons which they love. It's funny when they pop - there's 3-4 that shriek w/ excitement. And I mean shriek. The younger brother came up to me and asked for the "pictures". I gave him the "...aaaand" look, so he added "please". Aw, good boy. I gave him my camera and I have about 30 pictures of his face now - he just kept doing shot after shot of himself haha. Goof. He then looked through a bunch of my old photos and whenever it was me he'd point at the screen, then to me
and ask "da?"(yes). Cute.
We then went back outside for about an hour with some of the kids; the kids entertained themselves while a couple of us played volleyball, then football, with some of the older boys. There was one in particular that was really funny and trying to flirt with us w/ his limited English. Skills.
Last night most of us volunteers went out for food and drinks. We went back to the same place we found the other night, and it was the same guy working - he brought us the menus again, but he already knew what we were all ordering haha. Vodka girls. Skill. We had a fun night out - good conversation, and good company. It's so much easier to chill and talk out at a resto than here in our sad little kitchen.
Speaking of kitchens, we have no cook on the weekend, but I can't say any of us are sad about that. They did give us some sausages, chicken, potatoes, and bread to eat over the weekend - we'll prolly eat out for one meal, and then just go to the market for w/e else we need. We often
have our own food anyway b/c half the meals consist of "mystery dishes" we're all too chicken to try, or we just can't deal w/ the smell. We had a lovely lunch today - we cooked the chicken and potatoes and made ourselves a cake. Yum!
And of course we ate cucumbers.
So, it's a good thing I like cucumbers b/c, no joke, every meal (not including breakfast) the cook has made has had cucumbers as part of the dish. Every. Single. Meal. Cucumber salad, cucumber whole, cucumber soup, cucumber, cucumber, cucumber! It's the running joke in the group now.
Anyway, we've had a very slow day today - we got back in around 3am this morning, so we all rolled out of bed around 11am to eat our lovely food, and then pretty much everyone went back to bed/nap. I can't though - I know I wouldn't want to get back up afterwards. I think the plan tonight is to go back out to the movies, possibly to see Hangover. Yay.
