Austria- Hungary- Serbia- Bulgaria
Days 5, 6- Vienna, Austria
As our journey through Europe continued so did the rain showers. Our next stop was Austria’s capital Vienna where we had a 2night stopover allowing us to make most of the sights to see.
We got there late afternoon, giving us enough time to food shop before the shops shut and cook ourselves a big group meal. We then attempted to go out in the evening for drinks but the rain was ridiculous and we were imitations of drowned rats so ironically our moods was dampened..
With a glorious start to the next day a few of us headed into town to the Spanish Horse Riding School, where they train the horses to do fancy stuff like trot sideways and skip etc. After an amusing hour we then walked around The Imperial Palace, St Stephen’s Cathedral, The Giant Ferris wheel by which time it had started to pour down with rain. We made the most of our time and created our own fun memories, whether it was to try on props in a fancy dress shop while trying to dry out from the rain or Abby breaking her left
flip flop and having to drag her foot all the way back to the hostel as there was no shoe shops on route..
Days 7, 8- Budapest, Hungary
As we entered Budapest I started to see the resemblance of the eastern world. The city is split by the Danube River as ‘Buda’ and ‘Pest’ and owns a fair few historical buildings situated either side.
Once we checked into our hostel and dropped off our bags we went for a walk around the covered bazaar to check out the local delicacies’. We then went for a dip at the thermal pools, ensuring we got value for money by staying till our skins started shrivel..
In the evening we went out as a group to a very strange club. There were no signs outside the building, all you could hear was music from the 4th floor of this apartment. We braved it upto the top passing stairwell covered In graffiti and came to a roof top club. Very bizarre night but somewhat entertaining..
The next day we had a free day to do as we pleased, surprisingly it was raining again *huff* but we did manage to get
a few good photo opportunities. In the afternoon we headed over to the Labyrinths which are underground maze/ caves creating the perfect opportunity for the boys to scare us out of our widths… Cheers guys I will get you back!!
Day 9- Belgrade, Serbia
After a long day of driving we arrived to a wet but hot Serbia. There wasn’t much for us to do so we bought our groceries and headed back to the hostel to cook some dinner… ok well we would have gone straight back if we didn’t get lost. Anyway after a minor detour we came back to the hostel which I am sure had bed bugs and chilled for the rest of the night.
Day 10- Sofia, Bulgaria
The next morning we set out bright and early and headed to Bulgaria. Each day we are approximately doing 6-7hours travelling but to be honest I don’t know where the time flies. I either seem to be sleeping, talking or sleeping…
Got to Sofia and wasn’t particularly impressed with the city. Our hotel was something from the 70’s… as in..hadn’t been updated since and the mattresses probably never changed. There was a World Arm
Wrestling competition going on so a lot of incredible hulks walking about the place!! We went for a walk in the park and got caught in a severe hail storm. I was soaked through so wasn’t forming a special bond with this place..
Day 11- Plovdiv, Bulgaria
While remaining in Bulgaria we only travelled 2,5 hours arriving in Plovdiv. On the contrary to Sofia our hostel and location was really nice. We were staying in the old city that was surrounded by historical sites and buildings. After a tour around the sights me and Abby headed off for a bite to eat and to sample a few local beverages, which I was using purely as a form of sleep aid as I was excited to be entering Turkey the next day…
Till next time. xxx
