Kylie, Paul, Paul's brother Toby, his wife Daniella, Kylie's mum Jenny, dad Simon and I took the Eurostar over to Belgium for the day (how much do you love Europe, lets go to an entirely different country for the day). One seriously cool town!
We had a very rough plan of eating waffles, chocolate, mussels, drinking beer... and looking for a 15-year old prostitute with webbed feet. I hadn't looked up anything, and my knowledge of the place was limited to 2 lines from Austin Powers. Toby had been there before, Paul and Kylie knew that there was heaps of waffles, chocolate, mussels and beer, so we just sort of wandered around until we found a pub (which took about 5 hours, I suspect that only Paul and I knew that was the plan), looking at shops, checking out old buildings and spotting celebrities (Bob Geldof and Rod Stewart).
One old dude, fully decked out in wooden clogs and what I assume was traditional Belgian gear (and dubbed "Chani's dad" by the Stoddards), starting playing this musicbox thing and singing in the middle of the square... pretty cool! We ducked into this church, all the signs were in either French, Dutch or Flemish so I can't tell you much about the history of the place. I know I know, I can hear your disappointment.
I can tell you that they take food pretty seriously, everything we had over there was absolutely shit hot. Seafood casserole, mussels, waffles, little cakes... and chocolates!! I had a wasabi chocolate, which is, probably unsurprisingly, a little odd. And the beers! We went to this pub that had 400 different beers, I think the strongest one was about 13.5 %... madness. I tried a couple of wussy ones, a local blonde brew and one that tasted exactly like passiona - awesome.
So by the end of the day - beers (check), mussles (check), chocolate (check), waffles (check), fifteen-year-old prostitute with webbed feet.... sadly no.
ps, some total spaz forgot her camera, so will have to wait until the stoddards can send me some pics.

Send Private MessageHey Chani, love hearing about the adventures. I am in an internet cafe in Egypt playing Backstreet Boys...awesome. I am rather worried you are not spending enough of your time sampling the wide array of beers on offer. Drink more young lady!
Chani - you have to come to this.....
