The rest of the day went alright. Not long after writing before we lost our seats on the train because we didn't have "reserved" seating. So we stood teh rest of the time and listened to our i-pods. We got off in Paris and took the subway to another station so that we could go to Brussels. This time we had to reserve a seat. We split a tuna sandwhich made on a baguette - it was very tasty. The trip to Brussels was quick and then we walked until we found a hotel. It has TV, free breakfust and a [View Full Entry]

The main market square in the "Vielle Ville" (old city).
Brussels, Belgium It is a *very* short ride from Limburg and the 5-city area over to Brussels. 3 ˝ hours, with a train change. So when we got to Brussels at 2:30, we met Martin de Wrangel in the train station, dropped our things by his house in the Uccle area, then went back out to see what there was to do on a Saturday afternoon. We ended up walking around the center of town, seeing the Grand Place with its guild houses, and spying on the Manneken Pis doing his thing. It was a very cold, truly Belgian afternoon, complete [View Full Entry]

Not so flash at night, probably prettier in the daytime. And from another angle. Still nice though.
Probably the only things I knew about Belgium before I got there were that they have good chocolates, and interesting beer. And they do have both. I didn't know though, that Tintin is Belgian. We arrived in Brussels at night, and the first thing that was pointed out to us were the green cross signs that indicated open pharmacies. I think it's a brilliant idea. I mean, if you got sick in the middle of the night and haven't got a clue where to go, all you have to do is run around looking for a green neon cross. Brilliant eh? [View Full Entry]

My husband and I went to Brussels for a long weekend at the end of October 2004. It was not our first trip. We had a great time walking around and spent most of our time in the Grand Place which has the most beautiful buildings... the guild houses. We did partake of a chocolate waffle too, which was more than filling, but very enjoyable! Many places to see are within easy walking distance of the centre. [View Full Entry]

We flew from Sweden to Brussels Belgium, NATO headquarters. Once again our plane was full of young soccer players, can we ever get away from them? The airport there is very large and beautiful with all the announcements & signs in 4 languages making everything very easy for us. Once we arrived in Brussels we caught a train to Liege which is about 100 miles south of Brussels and where Cecile lives. Well really we had to catch 2 trains. In Europe there is usually a train station underneath the airports making it very easy for transport to and from the [View Full Entry]

Bruxelles a nuit

Homage to Belgium!
I'm in that pre-trip-planning mode again. You know, the kind that gets me in trouble when fellow travellers complain I'm making all the important decisions, etc., whine, etc. (Never mind they're totally indecisive in the first place...okay, I'll back off.) Before I go back to the States this fall, I want to make one last trip back to England. Think of it as paying homage to all the dead guys (and women) who made Senior year especially enjoyable (honestly!) with AP English Lit. On my list of places to go and do are: --London (see plays--Les Mis and Phantom--as well as [View Full Entry]
