Brussels and Bruges... a Bank Holiday weekend in England so I joined the crowds and went away... a few days in Belgium. Day one and two was spent in Brussels where we ate some fantastic Belgium food and drank Belgium beer... for a non beer drinker - it sure was good! Saw some pretty amazing buildings in this city that is 1000 yrs old! La Grand Place was magnificent and it lived up to being 'one of the best squares in the world'... a great place to sit back and enjoy a beer and the surroundings. On our last day we [View Full Entry]

We´re just finishing up our 2.5 day stay with Erwin (another Spring guy), Bieke, and Esther in Lueven, Belgium. Again, it's been great having locals to show us around and make us feel welcome in their homes! During our stay here, we´ve visited downtown Leueven and Brussels, tasted local famous foods such as Belgian waffles, Belgian chocolates (we´re bringing some of these home), Belgian frites (fries), and a homecooked meal made by Bieke herself, and been able to socialize with I21/Spring locals! Keith has also tried MANY different Belgian beers (Kwak, Mais, Palm, Sudden Death something, Ho [View Full Entry]

Allow myself to introduce......myself Hello again to all my faithful readers!! I am sorry time has not permitted me to update since Atlanta, but various events and cicrumstances have plotted against me, leaving me either netcafe-less or time-less, but, coming to you all the way from Brussels, Belgium, I'm here to make things right.....more or less. Anyway, last time you heard we had just finished up at the magic kingdom......(insert cliche movie flashback here) The 30th dawned bright as we ponied-up once again and hit the road south towards Tony Montana's town, Miami. Having not [View Full Entry]

New York New York, it's a Helluva Town Right, so, coming to you live from Brussels, about 6 hours after I last updated, is Tristan, dishing all the goss on our time in New York City. We left Toronto around 8 and drove straight through overnight, stopping at Niagra Falls again, and so we arrived in New York City on the morning of the 9th feeling very tired indeed. However, time was precious, and our first order of business was to sell the car. To this end, we stopped at the State of New York DMV for some advice.....which was 'fuck [View Full Entry]

Dan and I arrived in Brussels around 3:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon. We almost missed our train out of Paris because the automated machine that was SUPPOSED to give us our tickets apparently didn't like the taste of my credit card. The train ride was a smooth hour and a half. Our hostel in Brussels was the Vincent Van Gogh Youth Hostel -- where you have to have a passport and you can't be over the age of 35. The place was great... although there weren't nearly as many english-speaking visitors as in Paris. But the place had a bar with [View Full Entry]

We awoke in the morning to sunny skies that would remain for the majority of the day. Our current hostal is a lot like a dorm for really cool people. Breakfast this morning included a decent choice of food, lunch trays, and a line for entry into a cafeteria. It was a good meal, and I was certain that it would be a start to another great day of exploring and I was right. One great thing about being over here is that every single day, if not every single hour, brings completely new experiences that are totally unexpected. I've used [View Full Entry]

We flew to Brussels, Belgium yesterday. The moment we stepped out of the train station we knew for sure that we've left Greece behind. Venerable, art nouveau-ish buildings surround us instead of the modern, concrete, boxes that is Athens. The food here costs a night's accomodation in Greece so we've been surviving mainly on leftover marble cakes, bagel chips, and Pizza Hut when we decided to splurge last night. And everybody speaks English (except for the toilet cleaning lady in McDonald's), and it feels great for a change! Belgians speak French and Flemish. Our useless phrase book has no sect [View Full Entry]

Weird people in Brussels

I did quite like it here even though it is not the most exciting place in the world and has a bad reputation in Europe for being a bit of a hole. I spent most of my day up in Heysel which is on the outskirts of the city but has a nice large park, and Brupark! which is a complex that has a water park, cinemas and Mini-Europe which is quite possibly the tackiest thing I have ever seen. It has all the major landmarks of Europe but at 1/25th of the size. My camera ran out of batteries while [View Full Entry]

Well, just wanted to let everyone know that I was not in London this morning. I was on a train from Paris to Brussels. The trains were delayed a bit this morning and all the ones coming from London Waterloo were cancelled. I now know why. Brussels is interesting, but I am probably moving on to Amsterdam tomorrow, then in to Germany. Don't worry...I'm fine and will be home in a week or so. Brandon [View Full Entry]

It was the semester break for our studies in Florence, Italy, so myself and my roomate, Lindsey, decided we would take advantage of the opportunity and head to Brussels, Amsterdam, and Berlin for the week! Brussels was a stop-over for us because ultimately it did not cost much more at all to fly into the area (Charleroi airport) and then take a train into our intended destination of Amsterdam, than if we had just flown straight into Amsterdam. Who were we to complain about the opportunity to see an extra city/country! The arrival airport was a small one, and after a [View Full Entry]
