Saturday..
We went to the Van Gogh museum earlier in the morning. The museum is a smaller museum but it contained a lot of information about Van Gogh. It was interesting to read about his life, I learned many things about he I did not previously know. I was a little disappointed that many of favorite pieces he has done were not there. Although I have a new favorite, Blossoming Almond Tree. It was fascinating to see the actual work done by someone so famous. The actual brush strokes of all his pieces were breathtaking!!
We then proceeded to the Tulip Museum but decided not to go through it. The gift shop was quite nice, I signed up for their catalogue. So if anyone wants to order some Tulips let me know. We wanted to go to the Anne Frank house but the wait was way too long, I guess that will have to be on my list of things to see in Amsterdam when I return. One other things to mention about the city is the amount of bikes. Everyone in the city rides a bike, you have to be careful so you don't get hit by them. But it is neat to see them all over the city.
Next for the day was our venture to Brussels Belgium. It was only about a 2 1/2 hour trip from Amsterdam. Along the way I saw some cows, fields and windmills. The old windmills were actually pretty neat to see. We also stopped at a McDonalds, so I ate at a foreign McDonalds. I ordered a Happy Meal and get this if I wanted to toy I had to pay for it. How wrong is that???
We arrived at our hotel, which was extremely nice. We then took the bus into the center of the city. I was pretty proud of myself because I figured out the bus schedule. We did get a little turned around in the city, but we did find our way to the city center. There was so many chocolate shops and let me tell you I sampled sooo much!! All of it was so good. We basically went from shop to shop getting free samples. So delicious!!!
The next morning the hotel served an amazing breakfast including, crepes, waffles, sausage, Nutella (new favorite), fruit and so much more. I think I ate enough for the whole day. I did save room for more chocolate samples. We also walked around to find the famous, Manneken Pis. That is the statue of the little boy peeing, let me tell you nothing too special. But I now can say I saw it, it was only about 1 1/2 feet tall. We then went into a pub, you can't go to Belgium and not have a beer. Brussels was a pretty neat town with amazing buildings, chocolate, beer and waffles. I did think the town was a little more dirty though, which is something I didn't care for. I was able to get a Stella glass, while I was there, which is my favorite beer that happens to be from Belgium how convenient.
That night we traveled back to Amsterdam. We went and ate at the Hard Rock Cafe, it was pretty good nothing too special. I am sure it is more of the name then anything. We walked around a bit and saw a group of guys break dancing, which was so neat. I took some pretty good pictures of them. They were amazing dancers.
The next morning I had to on my plane to go back to London :(
I really enjoyed Amsterdam, I really did fall in love with the whole atmosphere of the city. So if anyone wants to venture there, I am in!!!
