Dan went to Brussels for three weeks to do the simulator--part of his training for the French Air Force. The last week he was there, I went to visit him and we toured around. Unhappily, Brussels does not hold a nice image for us. Dan lost his wallet there. Also, It was FREEZING cold and rainy much of the time. When we last reported we were "freezing in Florence". We are now nice and warm and a lot has happened. We found celebrating Christmas in Belgium to be an inspired experience for the whole family. We were able to invent new traditions that will hopefully stay with us for years to come and additionally we were able to escape a lot of the harried chaos that usually accompanies holidays in the States. I've had a very long day, without any real reason too. And we actually only had the waffle portion of the title. I did, by the way, manage to get on a train yesterday with relative easy to come to Brussels to meet Kira, through the first train I wanted to catch wasn't running because the train in front of it broke, so I just caught the next one. It's about 3 hours by train from Amsterdam to Brussels and I used my hour in the train station to buy some much needed shampoo that was confiscated by the Russian airport [View Full Entry]

Another Ryan Air holiday bound to be plagued with certain uncomfortable elements; and yet, in the balance between comfort and cost we happily opt for the cheaper and more dangerous route. We were supposed to spend two nights in Brussels but Liz had some bank trouble and we weren't able to leave until Thursday afternoon. The first thing we had to do was figure out how to play the Amsterdam train station game. We stood in several lines and walked around confused before finally figuring it out.
