‘”To eat ethnic food in the place that gave life, and to immerse oneself in the history and culture of that place, can transform an otherwise mundane meal into an extraordinary experience. “ ( Benning J, 2010) Belgium is famous for its many types of cuisines. I really enjoyed my stay here in Belgium since we ate authentic Belgian Waffles, Belgian Fries and Belgian Chocolates. Most of the Cuisines that I tried were from random restaurants, cafes and food stand ups. I did not anymore researched on what would be the best one since I think it is all the same, so I picked the restaurant/ cafe which will be convenient for my walking. Luckily all of the foods that I have tasted were really good. While walking in the shopping district of Antwerp, Belgium, I ... read more

Our last minute decision to make a quick stop in Belgium was a success! Although we had booked open train tickets to return to Amsterdam from Hamburg as our last trip, we decided that once we hit Amsterdam we would quickly book tickets to Belgium and hop on the first train out. This was all going very smoothly as the next train departed 15 minutes after our arrival; we grabbed a quick bite, bought our tickets, and jumped back onto the train. About 20 minutes into the ride, we started to notice that our train was taking an extra long stop at one of the stations along the way. An announcement came over the speaker rambling something in Dutch and then a lady came through the cabin to alert everyone that a kidnapping had taken place ... read more

So recently i found out that the nickname that i used for this blog Nomadic matt is trademarked.... huge design flaw for the website to allow someone to create a name that they cant use, spend alot of $$$ to have business cards made with the name of my blog so that everyone can keep tabs on me. So Travel Blog what am i supposed to do with 200 business cards i left in the states and the other 250 that i have in my posseson, throw them away? order new cards and now pay to have them shipped overseas?? So finally after a few days of jet lag and basic bag carrying/running soreness all is well. One thing I have to rant about is how little leg room planes now have... Seriously I'm 6 1 and it sucked. Aside from that publictransportation is always good for meeting random people... On the train I met a pretty cool girl that worked as a head hunter for a big corparate law firm, very interesting convo, even though I may not be a future lawyer. On the plane I met a group of teachers from Ghent university, who teach other teacher how to teach handicapped children, again good convos In between short and very uncomfortable naps. Now sometimes claiming to be a nieve American not sure of whats going on works to your advantage and well sometimes it doesn't. ... read more

... read more

Antwerp ~ The centre of the Universe If you’re anything like me, you probably won’t ever have heard of Antwerp. But that doesn’t put the Antwerpians off. They believe they are God’s gift to man, and that their city is the centre of the universe. I’m lucky to know one of these preformentioned Antwerpians, so got a local’s eye view of one of Europe’s fashion centres. It’s one of the biggest cities in Belgium but I’m still not sure if it the capital of Flanders or not. There seems to be a lot of competition between Antwerp and Ghent for the most amazing city award. Antwerp really is beautiful. The myth goes that a giant, Antigoon, used to rule the gates to the city and demanded a fee from anyone wishing to enter. Well, one day ... read more
