Once the center of power for the large Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austria was reduced to a small republic after its defeat in World War I. Following annexation by Nazi Germany in 1938 and subsequent occupation by the victorious Allies in 1945, Austria's status remained unclear for a decade. A State Treaty signed in 1955 ended the occupation, recognized Austria's independence, and forbade unification with Germany. A constitutional law that same year declared the country's "perpetual neutrality" as a condition for Soviet military withdrawal. Following the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991 and Austria's entry into the European Union in 1995, some Austrians have called into question this neutrality. A prosperous, democratic country, Austria entered the Economic and Monetary Union in 1999. To be updated

Hello.

Europe » Austria » Vienna State » Vienna
This is a test post. The last one, from August 31, was just copied and pasted into this new online journal from my other one, which wasn't good because it wouldn't let me add my own pictures or anything. And I guess while I'm at it, here are some pictures of my dorm that I live in :) [View Full Entry]

This first series is of Eric and I going boar hunting. Boar hunting is greater than most types of hunting because the hunter uses a specialized spear rather than a rifle, so the animal has a fighting... [more]
This album is mostly just my friends and I in Vienna, and not enough of the city itself. I have been putting off going around and trying to photograph all the beautiful parts of the city because that would be very difficult. However, I have found some quite interesting things around here and the photos should give some kind of a glimpse into what weve been up to lately. [View Full Entry]

Our Place

Our place.
Our place.
Note how much cleaner my side is. In fact, all that crap on my side is actually erics. Except the little tube of lip balm and the small U-Bahn map.
Technically in Hutteldorf, we live in a private Dormatory called Europahaus. This place is not your ordinary dorm. [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Vienna and proceeded to fight our way through thousands of Saturday afternoon shoppers with our huge backpacks - fun! We got to tourist office alive and they directed us to our campground that we found without too much trouble. We set up our tent and headed off to find a grocery store only to find they were all closed already (it was after five on a Saturday) but we managed to wrangle up a feast from surprisingly well-stocked Shell gas station. The next day we did a self-guided walking tour that took us past the major sights with [View Full Entry]

I'll spare the commentary and let the photos do the talking. I will say that there is nothing like flying India Air, like visiting another culture while in transit. [View Full Entry]

Our first impression of Salzburg was that it is a very cute city surrounded by beautiful county side. The office at our campground was in a quintessential Alpine house and walking just minutes from our site were spectacular views of farm land, rolling hills, and mountains in the distance. We bought Salzburg cards, which give you free public transportation and admission to many of the sights for a 48 hour period. We started our process of getting the most for our money by taking the funicular (sort of an elevator on rails that go up the side of a hill) up [View Full Entry]

This is as close as we could get to the 7 star hotel in Dubai (Approx US$1500 per night for the cheapest room)
Hi everyone! Well this is the first of many installments to our blog! We are currently waiting at Vienna airport for our cnnecting flight to Athens! Dubai was awesome! Very very HOT! The 4wd safari was definitely the highlight! We spent 1 hour flying over the sand dunes before arriving at our campsite... We both rode a camel, Krista got a Henna tattoo and Kev went sandboarding and smoked apple hubbly bubbly! On our city tour, on the last day, we both had some durhams left so Kev bought a traditional head piece and Kristagot ripped off with a fake Gucci [View Full Entry]

Vienna, Austria

First of all, Iīm doing some catchup as iīve finally found some cheap internet time, so sorry about the influx of emails telling you iīve updated my blog. Secondīiųm typing on a French keyboard, and the keys are in mad positions, so forgive spelling and grammar. OK, Al and I arrived in Vienna Austria nice and early after catching another overnight train. It was a mixed cabin of 6 with tiny bunk beds. It was absolutely stifling hot and a very uncomfortable ride. We both agreed that the reclining seat option we were offered would have been much better (we both [View Full Entry]
