Well I am a little bit behind so the next few entries are catch ups! I left Prague after an awesome time and headed to Vienna.. Funny thing.. at the train station I bumped into two Canadian girls who I have constantly been seeing everywhere and then bumped into another Canadian guy who we also met in Berlin! It was nice having people to ride the train with so I wasn't alone talking to myself (which I must admit sometimes I do do traveling alone and all).
Vienna is a pretty beautiful town.. it's got all the old architecture.. and around the ringroad you are bombarded by beautiful buildings. You kind of get lost among them. The buildings and the gardens are enough to fill up an entire day of jsut pure walkign around.. it is especially amusing to see the locals out tanning in the bit of sun that is shining for summer.
After looking around ring road, and the main shopping street, I headed to the Nachtmarket. Its not particularly interesting.. definitely not the most impessive market Ive been too, but I love looking around anyway, just to see what sorts of foods are popular, and of course trying some of the interesting breads and such that are freshly baked that morning. I was looking for a nice ring or something, but the market only really comes alive with stuff liek that on saturdays Im told, so I didn't find anything that really interested me.
That night, we went out to a place called the Bermuda Triangle.. It's an area of Vienna which is supposed to be full of bars and confusing streets so you end up getting lost. It definitely did have alot of bars, and was interesting to walk around. We ended up in a few scuzzy places but there were a few of us so it was just fun..
The best part of Vienna I think was the last night I was there. A bunch of us from the hostel decided that we wanted to go to kareoke.. so after asking for the best place to go, we headed out to find the kareoke bar. We walked for quite awhile before coming to the place that it was SUPPOSED to be.. we looked around and couldnt find it.. then.. after walking around in circles for what seemed like ages, we nearly gave up, but at a last ditch effort asked a local who directed us to the right place. It ended up being a small tiny sign on top of a small doorway... a virtual hole in the wall, that you had to buzz to get into. So we buzzed.. and got let in.. and there were a bunch of doors on either side.. at first we chose the wrong door and ended up in a bathroom.. then opening the one brightly coloured one, we walked down a few stairs and into a little small bar, with a small stage.. a small bar.. and quite a few locals.. who were all staring at us foreigners.. it was a bit intimidating I must say... But.. we thought we had walked for teh past 45 minutes to get there, so we might as well make the best of it.. after choosing songs.. we sat and waited.. not acting up too much.. but then the first song came..
My choice: Bohemian Rhapsody.. Ooohhh Yeahhh..
Me and two others went up on stage and proceded to perform the most rediculous theatrical version of bohemian rhapsody we possibly could.. it was fantastic.. ahhaha.. Jumping around on stage, making strange voices.. singing loudly, talking to the crowd... They loved it!!! They were joining in singing and everything.. I think taht really lightened up the mood, and after that.. it just turned into a fantastic night of Kareoke with the local elvis.. the owners of the bar who were rapidly taking photos of us.. and the numerous other regulars who were in the bar.. it was great!
So that was my best memory of Vienna, and I have to say.. it'll be hard to beat!
Ciao!
