Leaving Corfu....
NOOOOO!!! i didnt want to leave corfu! i always said, to me a holiday aint a holiday without the beach! im lucky that we got to experience such such a wonderful place. The ferry to Venice was so boring! there was no casino, no games room, no english tv/movie channels!!! we occupied ourselves by playing cards and someone made up 'categories'. It was an early night for all which left us all feeling really good for the arrival in Venice (i was scared to go back to Italy...ewe!). Venice was gorgeous, built of all little islands, no cars alllowed in the city centre. We drove to Verona for lunch, the home of Romeo and Juliette. We saw the famous balcony and Juilettes house with numerous tributes of love from everyone who visits (yes jabe, i stuck our intitals to the wall :-)). This place was much how i had expected the rest of italy to be. Old but clean, lined with various fashion stores and everyone looking trendy. My faith in Italy had been restored by the time we reached Semioni. Semioni was the cutest, quaintest lake-side town i have ever seen! The colourful houses with the flowers hanging from the windows overlooking the water...ah! gorgeous. The town was built inside a fort, so u actually walk over the moat and drawbridge to enter the town. We drove to our campsite in Venice and i found out i was assigned to dishes duty after the meals we had at the campsite. The campsite was ok, small cabins with 4 to a room. Us four girls are still sticking together dispite making new friends we could share with. The meals they served were pretty good. We had spagetti and pesto pasta one night, bbq chicken, salad and chips the other night and the 2 breakfasts were omlette and cream cheese and tomato baugettes. Yum. The food its self in Venice was great. On our day in the City we saw lace and glassblowing demonstrations. Both were amazing and people with these occupations are indeed talented. We looked at the Peggy Guggenheim art collection, which was a little weird. And the rest of our free time was spent looking for a mask to wear to the masquarade party. I got a gorgeous mask, light blue and gold, with heaps of glitter, a huge flower and feathers. Pretty. we went on a gondola ride in the afternoon which was scary because it felt like we were going to tip the whole time! but it was also relaxing floating through the city on the canals. No music on the gondola tho, i guess u have to pay a bit more for the music. The party was ok, pretty quiet, i guess the theme scared most people off..although there were 4 contiki groups staying together so there were plenty of people still. It was another early one for me, kylie is really sick so im trying to look after myself aswell.
Vienna! Music and Kebabs???
We had a long day on the bus. No stop overs in exciting places on the way to Vienna. Just service stops to eat and pee. We zoomed into our hostel (really nice and spacy-yes! our own showers!!) and i attempted to make it to the bus for the Strouss and Mozarts concert. Well i missed the bus and had to catch a taxi into town myself. I seriously thought i was going to die. the taxi driver thought he was trying out for the grand pix! geez, but i made it in great time, impressed janelle who other wise wouldnt have been impressed i was late and was seated happily in time before the show began. It was not only just the 9 piece classical orchestra but also opera singing and ballet. It went for just over an hour and was a great experience, goose-bumps and all. Im off to explore the town now so i'll post the adverture from my next destination. I hope i get good coffee!!!!!!
