Background: Once the center of power for the large Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austria was reduced to a small republic after its defeat in World War I. Following annexation by Nazi Germany in 1938 and subsequent occupation by the victorious Allies in 1945, Austria's status remained unclear for a decade. A State Treaty signed in 1955 ended the occupation, recognized Austria's independence, and forbade unification with Germany. A constitutional law that same year declared the country's "perpetual neutrality" as a condition for Soviet military withdrawal. Following the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991 and Austria's entry into the European Union in 1995, some Austrians have called into question this neutrality. A prosperous, democratic country, Austria entered the Economic and Monetary Union in 1999.

Oops! ... I did it again ... :-)

"Small" adoption of the route ;-)

There are news once again: I'm planning to make a "small" adoption to my route. Reason for this are two invitations of friends, who I like very much and who asked me to visit them, before starting my unterminated travell through South-America (because otherwise it is a little bit uncertain, when I will be able to visit them again). Last day ...

Change of operation schedule

Today I've finally made up my mind, to change my "operation schedule". This is mainly because of two reasons: 1.) Seasons in South America are different to ours about 6 month. This means, that when whe have summer, there's winter in South America (of course, not all the country). That means, that winter is almost starting there at the moment and if I go there in June, it definitely will not be the best time.
