Ah... Linz, Austria. May not look big on a map, may seem smaller than most cities we have visited, but it contained 3 of the best things in Europe. An awesome, awesome club, Steve's 25th Birthday, but above all... Sandra... my flatmate of 3 months in Bondi Beach, Australia (Sydney). Sandra was kind enough to let us stay with her, and what a place she has: 2 stories, a swimming pool and only 3 minutes from PlusCity (a massive shopping center/cinema/bar and restaurant complex). At only 20, she teaches Kindergarden kids English full time, teaches kids to figure skate on Sundays, and teaches Scouts as a Scout leader. Talk about being busy, but she still had time to go out Friday night until 6AM to catchup on good times we had in Bondi and to celebrate ... read more

So we took the train from Brussels to Frankfurt, then from there to Linz. We arrived in Linz on Saturday morning and Lukas was there to greet us. We then took another train to Molln, his hometown. His mother picked us up. We rested and had showers and such. Ham and cheese was for breakfast with bread. Then, we walked to the river and played cards. We had Tirolerknödel for lunch and it was good. Then there was cake and hot cocoa. We sang some Austrian and American songs with a guitar. Then, Lukas took us to Steyr which is a little, old town nearby. They had cool old buildings and a castle and there were swans on the river. We walked about and got ice cream. Then, we went to a restaurant and I had ... read more

29th September......Linz with a population of 208,000 grew on me. While it has a lovely market square (with a flea market on the Sat morning I was there), it is an industrial city that belches out steam and pollution in the suburbs and across the Danube. You can taste it as you cycle out of the city. It is an alive city though and I enjoyed the large community art pieces on the riverbank. The Postlingberg, a twin spired baroque 18C church, sits atop a hill overlooking the town and river. At 537m it was a bit like cycling up to Mt Lofty but rewarded great views. After looking at the church I had a pleasant time sitting on a seat trying to avoid getting hit by falling pears while I had a beer overlooking a ... read more

Cycle along north side of Danube. Decide to stay downtown in a hotel rather than a suburban campsite in order to go out for the evening in Linz, the largest city in Upper Austria. Go to a an Organ Coner in the Cathedral (Mariendom - JS Bach Schuebler-Chorale and Messiaen's L' Ascension) and to a Kneipe/Night Club. Do not have a Linzer Tarte here but do so later the following day while en route. ... read more

So we had one brief afternoon to check out Linz before we had to catch our connecting train down to Salzburg to meet up with the family. It all went rather well considering our lack of German and after hooking up our onward tickets and storing our stuff we headed off into town to the Lentos Kunst Museum. It was pretty cool and had some neat sculpture exhibitions but unfortunately the top floor was closed and so we missed some of the stuff I had hoped to see. Lunch was a picnic on the banks of the Danube where we clambered about the metal sculptures that I think the city is famous for. Then it was across the bridge to the Ars Electronica Center. Everything there is electronic or uses technology in some way. It was ... read more

Hallo! After a very long flight, almost being toppled by my luggage on the escalator(no idea how to spell that) in Frankfurt, and a 5.5 hour train ride with a couple that freakishly resembled my grandparents, I met Kefa on the railway platform. He had an ice cold coke and box of Austrian chocolates waiting for me- Much luv to him for that one! I absolutely love the train! People get in and out and they all talk to eachother ( which ´sounded and looked friendly, but I can't say for sure), at one point the 'Opa' of the group said something about food, and the people in the booth(?) all pulled out their bagged lunches, and shared. It was the cutest thing I've ever seen....sorry Pixie! It is so hot here, but the locals have ... read more

AT the train station in Linz waiting for the train to Frankfort. We were going to go to Berlin after Cesky Krumlov but the trip was just way too long so we changed plans and are stopping in Frankfort for one night on our way to Amsterdam. I plan on having a frankfurt in Frankfort..hee,hee. Hated to leave Cesky Krumlov, if I had known it was so beautiful we would have planned for more days there. The atmosphere is so relaxed, everyone practically speaks english and there's so much to do. We went to the torture museum this morning before we left town...that was a kick. All authentic torture devices including a chastity belt. And saw the church. E's getting used to my 10 minute church visits...I can' just walk past one. We have to change ... read more
