I´ve been hiking again. That´s probably not shocking news. On Wednesday I took a bus from Trento up to a small Banff they call Madonna di Campiglio, 1500m above sea level in the Italian Dolomites. The town´s near the top of a broad pass, and mountains rise up on both sides, especially the east. Here is the Brenta Group of the Italian Dolomites, with massive towers and huge cliff faces that soar up close to a kilometre in places. I managed to find a mountain hut in the valley where I could leave some of my heavy gear again, and ended up heading out for a couple days with a lighter pack. It´s nice having mountain huts everywhere that you can stay in, even if it does feel a little over-developed. It was a shorter hike ... read more

Off to get the yearly fix of snowboarding we journeyed to Innsbruck in Austria. Innsbruck town is nestled inbetween 5 or so different mountains so everywhere we looked there was stunning scenery and we were keen to get out onto the slopes. Our first mission hit us trying to find out how to get to them. The bus system was rather random and many locals couldnt actually tell us where to catch them from. We eventually found some skiiers and followed them to some station and jumped on a random bus hoping we would end up at some snow. Fortunatley it did so once we got geared up we headed out. The weather was really clear and sunny which was amazing but it also ment that there wasnt much snow around so kari had fun trying ... read more

It would probably take most of you a while to find Innsbruck on the map. Hell you lot probably couldn't find Austria!! I decided insults are a good method to test if any one bothers to read the blog! Of course it could back fire on me. We hadn't planned anything past Rome, so we looked at the map in the Lonely Planet guide, read the reviews and decided on Innsbruck. The capital of Tyrol, Innsbruck hosted two Winter Olympics and is ideal for skiing in winter and mountaineering in summer. At any point in the city, from the train station to our campsite, we were greeted with spectacular views of the mountains surrounding the city. You have to love the different cultures in Europe. I have already mentioned the obvious, Italian's and the Spanish are ... read more

Hello again - this time from Innsbruck, Austria. I am writing while trying to cook some dinner (actually Daniel is cooking) - it’s really windy and it keeps blowing our cooker out so we have had to move to a more sheltered spot outdoors as they don’t have kitchens in camping grounds in Europe. So today we went and had a look at some more scaffolding with a significant tourist attraction annoyingly in the way. It seems that everything that we want to view and photograph is covered in scaffolding - the castle at Heidelberg, the bridge at Heidelberg, the church at Heidelberg, the Dom at Koln, and now the Neuschwanstein castle in Fussen. Maybe they knew we were coming so decided to renovate everything just for us - pity they didn’t finish it in time! ... read more

So daddy woke us up before we told him to again... and then I ate my banana! And then I relaxed while daddy and Cindy showered and stuff and then we went to get a little more to eat and then we went to do our laundry. At the laundry place there was this newspaper I was attempting to read and it seems like the Austrians have a problem with people collecting too many mushrooms and they need a license to collect them. Strangeness. Oh and speaking of that, I don't think I mentioned how we were watching some German TV in Switzerland, there were some German cartoons and stuff and I could sorta understand the cartoons. There's also German TV here, but it's just olympics and stuff we didn't find any cartoons. After I was ... read more

So we woke up early this morning, around 5:45... and I actually slept good last night! I think I only heard daddy snore once! I was amazed lol. So we packed up and went to have some breakfast and then caught the bus to the train station and caught a train to Zurich. So then our train to Innsbruck didn't leave for about a half an hour so me and Cindy went off to get some chocolate and a souvenir. Cindy found this cute Swiss cow magnet and we got some chocolate, but it wasn't the really good kind... we couldn't tell what kind to get, we got the kind we did cause it looked like souvenir chocolate that you're supposed to get. So then we caught our train and I took some pretty pictures of ... read more

From Vienna we travelled to Innsbruck where we planned to spend 6 days sightseeing, hiking and generally enjoying the great outdoors! Alas, it was not to be as, apart from a few sunny spells in the first few days, we were subjected to almost constant rain. Believe me - there are few things worse than camping in the rain. Everything is damp all the time and even though the tent put up a good fight a storm on the Sunday breached it’s defences for the first time and meant that I had to sleep curled around a puddle on my airbed. The first 3 days were highly productive though as we had received an Innsbruck Card as part of a special offer at the campsite which entitled us to free travel on all city transport as ... read more

So nothing really important o let y'all know of today. I am just sitting in my room actually doing homework, bleh. I hate how this school stuff gets in the way off traveling. I just finished some work For Business communication's and am now studying for my midterm. I wish classes didn't exist in Europe. Oh well look at my pictures from Amsterdam they are great. I cant wait until this coming weekend. If Laki and I ever get over to the train station we are going from here to Brussels and borduex, then to Paris and on to Barcelona, and after that to Milan and back to Innsbruck. SO much fun. I hope it all works out. I also wish the weather would change. It is just cold and wet all the time. I might ... read more

A jaunt in Austria

After a month in London, with no jobs on the horizon, we took the opportunity for a quick jaunt to Austria to experience the Alps for the first time. Of course, when you are living off savings, corners tend to be cut and we found ourselves at the coach station, waiting for a bus to Stansted at an ungodly hour of a Saturday morning. Munich was scorching hot, despite it being early, so we found a packed beer garden and settled in to wait for the others to join us. I wished I had brought a dictionary though. Ordering off the menu, the beer was straightforward. When it came to mains, we needed some assistance from the waitress. I happily tucked into what I thought was a delicious veal goulash. I was later informed that it ... read more
