My time in Europe is drawing to a close, but before it ends I have an amazing month to update you all on. I'm spending my last few days in Europe staying with my friend Friedolin in Graz and I couldn't think of a better way to say goodbye to Europe than to spend time with a friend I haven't seen for 3 years. A lot has happened since I left Sweden a month ago. So much that I don't know where to start or how to describe all the amazing, fascinating, fun things I've experienced. Let's start in Serbia. Belgrade was our destination when we flew out of Stockholm. A lot of people wondered why we were going to Serbia and some questioned whether or not it was a safe decision, but I think it ... read more

After having a rest at the hotel for a while, we started strolling through the town centre. It was rather warm in Graz in the afternoon on 25 September. We both went out without wearing jackets. Mariahilf Hotel was standing along the Mur river, and close to local amenities and sightseeing places around the city centre. We walked around the city centre, i.e. Hauptplatz, popped in the tourist information centre, and stopped at Schlossbergplatz. Mur Island While crossing over the river, we noticed a peculiar looking object, which resembles a giant open mussel, floating in the middle of the river. We were certainly interested in the futuristic object, and decided to go through the walkway on the way to our hotel. We saw a stylish cafe and amphitheatre in the futuristic building. Mariahilfkirche There were several ... read more

HEY GUYS, LEFT VIENNA TO HEAD DOWN TO SLOVENIA BUT ON THE WAY WE ARE STOPPING IN A PLACE CALLED GRAZ, MY SISTER IN LAW GERTI COMES FROM THERE, WE HAVE BEEN BEFORE BUT AS WE ARE VIRTUALLY PASSING THE TOWN ON THE AUTOSTRADE, WE HAVE DECIDED TO STOP AND VISIT HER FAMILY. THE SCENERY IS SO BEAUTIFUL ON THE WAY, GREEN MOUNTAINS, WITH A HINT OF SNOW STILL ON THE HIGHEST PEAKS, WHEN WE ARRIVE IN GRAZ AFTER LEAVING THE AUTOBAHN, WE TURN LEFT AND IMMEDIATELY I YELL TO PAUL THAT'S WHERE GERTIS MUM LIVES! AND AS WE PULL THE GRISSWOLD MOBILE HOME INTO THE CAR PARK, AND I SPOT HER MUM AND WAVE, BUT I DON'T THINK SHE REALISED IT WAS US. A YOUNG BOY CAME UP TO THE WINDOW AND SAID TO PAUL, ... read more

Well hello again! I am back with another instalment of my travels around l'europe! AND I have worked out how the keyboard works (mainly). So i'm now in Graz but let me tell you what I have been doing since my last blog! Well Thursday night there was a tequila slammer party but I had a 20% off shooters voucher so I tried the UNDERTAKER! The barman was very impressed and so were two aussie's watching me. It was verrrry strong though, and I have no idea what the actual ingredients were HA. Frideee I got talking to a girl from Dorset whos name I can't remember...whoops! We walked into town and had a drink at a lovely pub and we chatted and people watched :) She was in Slovenia as for her final dissertation at ... read more

Winter is in full swing here. There is always ice/snow/slush on the roads, and it usually snows three or four times a week. By “it snows,” I mean a blizzard-like occurrence that leaves several inches of new snow. The bottoms of my pants are always wet and slushy, but thanks to my new snow boots, my toes are always warm and dry. You might be tempted to think that since Austrians are so used to dealing with winter, there wouldn’t be any delays/school closings/etc. And that’s true for the most part. Every morning I pass a few snow ploughs on my way to school. The driveways and many sidewalks are usually shoveled. But this week, winter caused more inconvenience than just chapped lips—my train was actually blocked on the way to school, and after two hours, ... read more
