Monday I only have 1 class (2 every other week). I have German Conversation class with Rene, which is only on Mondays, and then the ÖSD prep class which is every other Monday, and is to prepare us for the fluency test we take at the end of the year. I find this to be the perfect way to start the week. My first class isn’t even until 1030 and then I have the whole afternoon off. We got out about half an hour before lunch. For lunch there is a business that I think is an art gallery that is quite large and has a cafeteria in it which is less than a five minute walk away so we walk there for lunch everyday. We get an hour and a half for lunch everyday but most classes end at noon and so it is more like 2 hours. So on Mondays after lunch from 2-335 there is an Ethics class which everyone but me is in because I already took it. So the internet is really fast (it is just normal internet by American standards but really fast compared to what we are used to) because no one is using it so I always take advantage. Also I am student worker and my job is the library which means I do nothing since there is like no work at all for the librarians and there are two of us and all the student workers are required to do one hour helping in the library a week. So basically I just do all my internet-ing this hour on Mondays and Wednesdays in the library while I am “working”. Then from 4-535 there is a Biblical Traditions class which Pat doesn’t have so we usually spend 30-45 mins Salsa dancing but by that amount of time we are very hot and tired and then we usually just eat junk food and watch movies or Scrubs till dinner at 6.
Tuesday however is my Hell-Day. My first class is at 830. I have German with the crappy German teacher who thinks we are all idiots and below him because we haven’t had as much German as the other class which has all the students whose parents are German speakers or have been in it since high school and are all fluent. Then I have an hour till Fine Arts with Frau Dr Loos who hates us all. Every time some spells something wrong on our weekly quiz she writes it on the board to embarrass them. She doesn’t pronounce things right and spells things wrong all the time but if we do it…plus she worked at a museum for like 35 or 40 years and so she knows everything about every piece of art ever and just expects us to learn it the first time she mentions it in class. And then gets angry when we don’t. Then we get out at noon and have Stan’s class at 2. Stan teaches Political Science. Stan thinks that everything that has ever happened in History anywhere somehow has happened directly because of the Jews. He is obsessed. And he is often wrong. And he assigned a book that he doesn’t agree with. And if you don’t agree with him on the test even if you well argue your point and cite the book he still won’t give you an A. That ends at 335. At 430 we have Music with Gundi. I love Gundi. She is like the nicest person ever and her class we just hear stories about famous composers and listen to music. She thinks of us all as children or grandchildren. We get out at 555 and have dinner at 6. Then I have English at 7 which ends at 830. It can be boring but Gundi teaches it so its not that bad.
Wednesdays I have 2 classes which is not that bad. I have German again at 830 and then English at 1030. And then I am done! After lunch I go to the library again and then I dance with Pat and then movies. We sometimes mix it up if we don’t feel like dancing we will just hangout. Often in the evening we have to do Maps for Stan’s class so we will have a beer and all hangout and do maps. For some reason Lauren and I’s room is the hangout room even though it is so tiny.
Thursday is our last day of class for the week. Thursday is not a very hard day but it has a shit schedule. I have fine arts class at 1030 and then there is lunch and after lunch at 2 I have Stan until 330. However for some reason they decided to make German class at 5! 5 to 6 on the night everyone wants to leave to go travel we have that stupid class at the very end of the day.
However the best part of that day is that it’s the last day of the school week! There is no school on the Fridays. The weekends have breakfast put out every morning but the rest of the meals we have to make ourselves until Sunday Dinner. Sunday dinner is at 7 which is an hour later than normal and is not cooked by the Strobes but by students. At the very beginning of the year all of us were split into five groups. And each week a different group of students has to cook dinner for everyone. And by Wednesday that group has to come up with a list, translate it into German and give it to the Strobes and she buys everything and then on Sunday we cook it. However because she is the world’s worst shopper she often does not get things on the list or gets the wrong thing. Things she doesn’t get we have often seen in the stores here which makes it confusing. And the other thing is there aren’t very many good cooks here. So most of the meals so far haven’t been very good. The grilled cheese was terrible. First of all it was one slice of American cheese between two slices of bread and it was coldish and re congealed. With Pumpkin soup. And the burritos were really good except the Strobes got the wrong beans. They were not black beans. And they were really sweet. And about the size of my palm. Well more about these things in later blogs.

I started this blog when I was about to go abroad for the first time, right after my freshman year. I went to spain for 6 weeks, where I lived with a family in Segovia. It was so amazing and I was hooked! I returned to europe my junior year where I spent two whole semesters in Salzburg, Austria! I am still catching up on finishing and matching those travel blogs with pics...after that year I went to Italy to live in Florence, Italy with my boyfriend for the summer. Well, he came to Portland for the winter and he proposed! So here I am back (post graduation) in Florence (this time for good!), a... full info
