Background: For 715 years, from 1278 to 1993, Andorrans lived under a unique co-principality, ruled by French and Spanish leaders (from 1607 onward, the French chief of state and the Spanish bishop of Urgel). In 1993, this feudal system was modified with the titular heads of state retained, but the government transformed into a parliamentary democracy. Long isolated and impoverished, mountainous Andorra achieved considerable prosperity since World War II through its tourist industry. Many immigrants (legal and illegal) are attracted to the thriving economy with its lack of income taxes.

A L'Estany Junclar! Europe » Andorra » Soldeu
After our first morning of sleeping in, Alex, Kelsey, and I did a bit of shopping, first stopping at the Casa de Formatge. The week started with Chaz falling, hitting his board on some poor man's head and having to be rescued by a snowmobile and it finished with Axelle having to give up half way through the last day due to, lets say, bottom injury. The apartment was at [View Full Entry]

Ready to doing some serious snowboarding

Another trip to Pas de la Casa to practice my skiing. Much better conditions this year with 1m snow on the slopes. Chatted to a group on the bus journey who took pity on me and invited me to ski with them for the week. Also blagged my way into the intermediate group lessons and was bricking it when they started mentioning black runs and jumps! All I could keep thinking was that I've just handed in my notice at work and I have a medical next week for my new job - I can't afford to break anything!!!! Nevertheless onwards [View Full Entry]
