The "salvia" had worked again but only half-way this time. Vibert awoke with pain in his right thigh and left calf. He walked like a wounded duck. Shanna was, for the most part, just fine. We had slept deeply on a singing bed, the Pico Duarte adventure behind us. And there was no mistaking where we were as the incessant roar of motorcycle engines indicated that Jarabacoa was already awake. And as much as we liked Jarabacoa, we instantly missed the absolute quiet and peace of the mountains. Breakfast was disappointing. We had opted for hot tea and cheese-and-vegetable pastelitos (or pasteches, similar construction like johnny cakes or bakes only tougher and sealed with the veges and cheese inside). Ours were way too oily. We ate what we could and then filled the space with jugos ... read more

Well I am onto my third week here, and my first teaching classes all by myslef. Its going pretty well so far, i like most of the kids (only a few drive me really crazy) but for the most part they are really sweet and excited to be at school! Last weekend I went to Pacaya, a volcano! After a 2 hour hike we reached the base of the volcano, and it was all sharp'dark rocks leading up to a magnificent peak with molten lava running down it. It was awesome- we ended getting very close to teh lava which was amazing! You could feel teh heat underneath your shoes, and Emmas shoes acutully melted a little bit! Walking down we saw bits of the sunset which was beautiful with Pacaya in the background! It ... read more

********THIS IS MY VERY FIRST ENTRY THAT I COULDN´T SAVE BEFORE FOR WHATEVER REASON....SO SOME OF THE STUFF IS REPEATED IN THE NEXT ONE!!******** Wow, I don´t even know where to start. Really. One day, and I have incredible stories. To begin with though-I haven´t figured out this Peruvian keyboard yet, and as usual, I´m in a rush...so excuse all the mistakes por favor. And there will be many. So, thanks to Brookie and Steve, I got from Chicago to LA without a hitch....LA was a little confusing. Huge airport. I started speaking Spanish in LA....South American airline. Left English behind awhile ago, and my head is aching. Getting to El Salvador was cool-flew over lots of jungle and volcanoes. The airport is close to the ocean....looks a lot like Iowa. Flat, agriculture...except more tropical with ... read more

Well, the time has almost come to say goodbye...... In just a few short weeks time, I will have completed my very first work contract onboard a cruise ship. As sad as it will be to leave behind all the great memories and people I have met, I have so many exciting plans over the coming months. First, the wonderful Miss Lisy Drogemuller will be flying all the way from her temporary home in sunny England to Orlando, Florida to have a fun filled week of shopping, Disneyworld and if the past is anything to go by, quite a few bottle's of wine!!!! Next it's off to see my very lovely boyfriend in his home turf in West Virginia. Staying with his parents and hopefully getting the thumbs up from his family:) After the predicted ... read more

Folks, I have to start with an apology. I know I said Iwas going to tell you all about my first day, but I've decided against that. It went by in a whirl of jet lagged paper work and trying to learn an awful lot very quickly. So sufficeto say - tired, didn't listen, got pissed, had monumental hangover. Wished I was dead! Yesterday I had my first shoot in one of the ships dining rooms (the Coral - as in sea life, not rodeo) Which was to say the least, knackering! Walking round to a hundred or so tables with a dozen folk round each pretending you're bight breezy and enjoying yourself got a wee bit tedious. And, as I yelled at the umpteenth eejit who asked me "NO I AM NOT FROM FUCKING AUSTRALIA!!!" ... read more

Matka kesti 7 tuntia Guatemala cityyn, siellä oltiin siis aamulla klo.6.00. Siellä olikin odottamassa jo seuraava pienempi bussi joka toi mut Antiguaan. Täällä on todella hienot maisemat! Tulivuori näkyy taustalla.. Tykkäsin Antiguasta heti kun tulin tänne! Täällä on tosi vihreet... read more

After a long and late night of DJing for the teen dance, hitting up the crew bar, dancing in the disco and staying up late down in crew cabins, Michelle and I managed to drag ourselves out of bed this morning and tendered to shore in Georgetown, Grand Cayman. I was on a mission to buy my personal Grand Cayman souvenir - a carved wooden stingray I'd seen weeks earlier when I wandered around Georgetown with Brooks. We went to the market area, disappointingly didn't succeed and spent some time in a few shops until I get everything sorted. I don't want to spend any time my last cruise shopping, just enjoying the ports, so between last week and today, I should be in pretty good shape. The two of us then headed to Treasure Island, ... read more

My Friend and Escort on the Reef While Jenny built a sandcastle in the black sand of Playa Negra, this canine stood sentinel. Then Jen sent her off to check up on me, and then I had a new friend.Travelling around this wonderful country has taught us some interesting things about ourselves, chiefly among which we are mountain people as opposed to beach people. Not that we don't like the beach, because it's great, but we feel more at home in the mountains. There just seems to be more to see and do. And it's cheaper. The trip here was very neat, with waterfalls cascading down through the greenery along the roadside. Though it was tough to catch much of them as the bus careened along at a breakneck pace. We went through miles and ... read more
