Trinidad & Tobago Travel Blogs

Background: The islands came under British control in the 19th century; independence was granted in 1962. The country is one of the most prosperous in the Caribbean thanks largely to petroleum and natural gas production and processing. Tourism, mostly in Tobago, is targeted for expansion and is growing.

Trinidad and Tobago Location

I snuck in a bag and went to Tobago with my friends Stella and Wayne. It was great, the beach reminded me of home. I had some more drinks, met some locals and enjoyed myself! [View Full Entry]

Local beer tasted good
Whilst Stella and Wayne were out I was going to have fun
The locals were really friendly

We woke breakfasted etc as usual. We had the day to ourselves and decided to go out again in the car on a little explore. We headed around the coast to Crown Point, and went on a magical mystery tour. Our aim: To find Robinson Crusoes Cave (I read the Penguin version before leaving home). The cave was marked (very approximately) on a map I had from my mum - last used in the 1990’s. We drove to the bay the cave was supposedly on. The road took us around the perimeter of the airport very close to the runway [View Full Entry]

Another fort

Our car arrived in the morning, a good looking Nissan saloon, with fantastic air conditioning and absolutely NO petrol! Mission 1: to find one of the 8 petrol stations on the island and fill up. This was fairly easy as 6 of all 8 petrol stations were within easy reach of the resort. We then looked at the map (possibly the most useless map ever!) and decided to do a round trip of the island. Tobago is a very small island (42km long 10km wide) however none of the roads were straight, and no of them ran very level - [View Full Entry]

Our fab car
An old plantation
Wiggly roads

After a fairly early night and a good sleep we headed to breakfast. It was fab, lots of fruit, cooked brekkie, yoghurt etc mmmmmm. After breakfast we had our briefing from the Virgin rep. We had received a ‘free experience’ and so booked ourselves on a tour for our last full day called the Speyside Safari (saving about $70 each!!). On our way back to the room we booked a hire car with ‘Frankie’s tour’ at £30 a day it was a bargain! We then got our stuff ready to go diving. The dive centre picked us up at 11.30 [View Full Entry]

Wayne diving
Hello!
Big angel fish

We woke up early - 3.30am and this time it wasnt to take a lorry to London, we were off on HOLIDAY! We arrived at the airport after a fairly pain free journey - one of the first to check in. We had posh tickets- Premium Economy, which meant big seats (a must for Wayne and very nice for me!). As we were the first to check in we managed to get the Exit seats, so had heaps of legroom. We had a lovely cooked b'fast and did some last minute shopping before boarding for the 8 hour flight. 3 films [View Full Entry]

Waterfall
Waterfall
this was a little pool by the waterfall, nothing compared to the size of the waterfall itself though.
Hi, right, I'm back from exhausting internet school, and lots of weird days....lol. Anyway, the day after my last post, I went to the waterfall....I'll upload a couple of pics for you guys, it was amazing, I stood there and I felt like in titanic, i was ontop of the waterfall, and it was as if I was flying, if I had a bunji rope, hell I would have jumped down without second thought. Why?? well 'cause I'm just that crazy. No, but I really am, I would risk almost anything to have fun...so yea, call me insane, but at [View Full Entry]

No Mans Land!
Dad

So I'll go ahead and send this email since it was all queued up in drafts before the internet went down. But just know that, and I don't even know how to get into it now, because I'm so tired from all this liming, tomorrow's email is going to have some interesting info. S It's quite hard to sit here in this office day after day, staring out the window at all the activity going on outside. At least Trinidad isn't like Tobago, in that it isn't a resort. Trinidad is where the industry is… But today, I got out for [View Full Entry]

I think this is the greatest and couldn't stop laughing over this one I saw in the PAHO office here in Trinidad... I think we need to to start using it... Under a poster of a hip Trinidadian youth going to meet his friends on the corner... And ever so casually, he is placing his "tool" (a wrapped condom in his back pocket). A Craftsman Always Has His Tools... Ah yes, I guess all young men fancy that they are quite the "craftsman" while they are out practicing their craft... [View Full Entry]

While I've been here I have taken a great interest in what is known as the Queens Park Savannah. Also known as the largest roundabout in the world, I think the area inside the roundabout (traffic circle to those of you not in the know) may be similar to Central Park and whatever they call the one in Spain, I can't remember, I think it is El Retiro. It is huge and essentially a park with a one way street all the way around it. Except for you can't see across it or to the end of it. Everyday when I [View Full Entry]
