Well, I made it to San Juan. I am sitting in the executive lounge on the 9th floor of the Carbie Hilton, starring out the window to the waves crashing the beach! Pretty sweet. The flights were good, a little rough flying, but not bad. The last flight was like 4 hours, a long one! I met up with four other crew members in Charlotte, including the other props guy who I'll be working with directly. He's a pretty cool guy, in fact there're all pretty cool. They've been on this tour for about 5/6 months already, so their seasoned veterans. I feel better in their company.
I kind of feel like a rock star, we were greeted at the San Juan airport by a large Puerto Rican with a HSM sign, he then loaded our bags in his black SVU with tinted windows and delivered us to the hotel. We checked in and were greeted like professional business travelers. We got our rooms and a welcome package that included all kinds of things to keep us occupied here in San Juan! After getting into the room, I had a cheep dinner, Subway! And then started to stroll the beach when I heard my name shouted from three beach bums sitting on the private beach lagoon in their swim gear; it turned out to be the Stage Manager, the Head of Carpentry, and the Head Sound guy. They had gotten in a few hours earlier and already had made themselves at home on the beach! These guys were pretty cool and immediately said for the duration of the Tour I was only going to be called "Peacock". I said I was used to it!
I learned, also today that the opening dates have been pushed back and now we are not going to start working until Tuesday. So that means three days of fun in the sun! THe hotel is right on the beach and has, like I said, a private lagoon and three swimming pools and of course, a series of tightly grouped palm trees with hammocks! I am taking full advantage of that tomorrow!
I feels good to get to travel now as a professional business person and not just another tourist! So I am looking forward to getting to work and getting the show on the road!
Updates will probably come later this week, but I doubt I'll do anything tomorrow, but lay on the beach and get paid to do so!
Much love from the Caribbean.
