The sculpture, the plaza, the dominoe players - excellent!
Today we hit the road and headed west. A quick breakfast at La Patisserie de France and then onto the Rte. 22. Fortunately, we were headed out of San Juan, because they, like all of us, know how to do rush hour - big time! Now try to follow this...............speed limits are in mph, mileage markers are in kilometers, car odometers are in miles, and gas is sold by the liter (40.9/liter).

Our first stop was in and around Isabela, a small town at the northwest corner of Puerto Rico. Known for its surfing beaches and beautiful plaza, our stop was indeed enjoyable. We walked around the plaza and, as we did in Cidra, watched the men play dominoes and truly appreciated the architecture and colors. We headed down 466 toward the beach area looking for El Pozo de Jacinto. Like many rural places in Puerto Rico - street signs or even route markers can sometimes change without you even noticing. Today, as we looked for El Pozo de Jacinto, we traveled to several beaches trying to locate the site. During our last trip onto the beach and the rocky section where the blowhole was located, we experienced a true

Jacinto, Are you there?
soaker - yes, it was 84 but it rained. We found our way back onto the beach, Playa de Jobos, and onto the beach bar of the Sonia Ricon beach shack - another Anthony Bourdain hangout - where we enjoyed a Medalla light and waited for the rain to stop. Refreshed and glad the rain had stopped, we headed out to confirm our latest site guess. Success! The legend of el pozo de jacinto has it that a local farmer, Jacinto, lost one of his cows in a large hole on the rocky section of the beach and jumped in to try and save it. Unfortunately, neither survived and when you visit the site and watch the water rush in............you call out for Jacinto. We tried calling for him, but he did not respond............oh well.

We headed back out 466 to 2 and then south to Rincon and our rest stop for the night. We are situated directly on the beach at the Rincon Beach Resort. The view from our room is of the pool, palm trees, beach, and Caribbean Sea. Nice. A long walk on the beach, some time reclining in the beach chairs, and a beer and

sunset completed the afternoon.

Around 7, we headed for La Parguera to experience the bioluminescent bay. The drive takes you along narrow, winding roads, hairpin turns, merging/shared route numbers, over hills and mountains, and down into the small village - about a 1 hour drive. We grabbed a bite to eat at one of the local fishing shacks and arranged to go on the boat to view the bioluminescent phenomenon. We boarded a 18 foot boat with 10 other explorers and silently headed for the bay. The night darkness was compromised by the incredibly bright stars, but a late rising moon did not disturb our need for darkness. In 10 minutes, we were in the bay and one of the crew dove into the water to help activate the phenomena. The area around his arms and legs illuminated as he swam around the boat - quite a sight. We returned to the dock and headed back to Rincon................and we sit here completing this blog entry a bit later than normal.

Take care and see you online tomorrow.

Beautiful !!!
Hey Cones!! What a beautiful time you guys seem to be having. We love the pictures. What can we say , they speak for themselves. O by the way , would you be able to bring back a whole lechon or would you rather have Cardinals on a spit for the NFC Conference Championship game? We are so glad that you were able to see some of the Eagles- Giants game. That must've added more excitement to your trip. Keep having a wonderful time!!!!

Freezing in Jersey!
Hey Cones! You picked the perfect time to be out of the freezing cold. In the 20s and dropping fast here. BIG CHILL! Your bioluminescent experience sounds wild! How did the swimmer activate the effect? Sounds like a Timothy Leary trip. No pun intended! Enjoy the warmth and time off. We'll be waiting for you back in NJ!
