We stayed in a beautiful coffee town called Boquete for three days in the inland of Panama. The climate was really cool, and it was a nice change from all of the heat waves. In Boquete we found an animal rehabilitation sanctuary for domestically abused animals and those in the wild as well. It was by far the highlight of Boquete. The animals were so amazing. We took an 8 hour bus ride to Panama city a few days ago. I don't like the city at all, it's really dirty and loud and congested. Jen and I decided to go to [View Full Entry]

Ended up staying in Panama City for another day since there is so much to do here. Today we went to Panama Viejo which is the ruins of Panama from back in the 1500s. It rained most of the afternoon but we spent a good bit of time exploring the area of the city that we are staying in, Casco Viejo. It is very old world and the buildings are magnificent. We saw Noreyaga's, not spelled right, home before he was forced out by the US. Only a shell of a building due to the bombing but still can tell how [View Full Entry]

Miraflores Locks - Panama Canal
Made it to Panama City last night and what an ordeal. Yesterday we left Boquete around 11 am and went to the bus terminal in David to get our tickets to Panama City. Well everyone had the same idea and we waited in line for 2 hours just to purchase tickets. So, in the end, we did not leave for Panama City until 3pm. Eight hour bus ride that cost $12.60 each. The bus was nice, played movies, had a bathroom and was air conditioned. Took 8 hours and we were unsure what bus to take to the hostel. Finally found [View Full Entry]

We saw two ships pass through. This is the first one. Very big. Impressive
Hello from Panama City. We arrived late last night with no problems. Today we enjoyed the city starting with the Amador Causeway at the Pacific entrance to the canal. It was absolutely gorgeous. We walked around the city and visited the Miraflores Locks in the afternoon. The huge cargo ships pass between the Atlantic and Pacific in approx. 8 hours with a 2 foot clearance on both sides inside the locks. It is simply genius, it saves the ships two weeks time if they had to pass around Cape Horn. The old architecture is beaut [View Full Entry]

Spent the evening in the Hostel getting to know the people Im sharing the building with, plenty of cans from the local good stuff was consumed whilst sat on the balcony where I met Martin from Holland, hes just finishing a 5month trek around these parts so took a good few tips of him for the rest of the journey. Its nice to know he made it all around here without any Spanish so I feel much more confident now. Marc and Max from Germany are staying here too, they seem good guys and speak great English. I tagged along with [View Full Entry]

Panama is a good place. They are on the U.S. dollar so you don't have to deal with changing figures in your head when buying things like mangos. You hand them a quarter and they give you a big bag of slices. Another reason this is a great place is because you have the potential to get many different places in the world and in style too. Almost materializing my dream to make it to the South Pacific, I met some guys who found a sailboat willing to take a few select brave individuals to Tahiti via the Galapagos. It [View Full Entry]
