Well, the 4th of July has been here and gone. I am in the city of Matagalpa to celebrate with volunteers from my group. We had excellent Italian food for dinner... and then I was exhausted and went back to read as opposed to out to dance. Which was fine with me.
And now my stomach has turned all of that rich food and cold coffee drinks into liquid. There are more colorful ways to describe this, but Iīll spare you.
However, I do not regret the food choices that I have made. Mexican food for lunch. A mint mocha frappe for dessert. Pasta carbonara for dinner. A crepe filled with goodness for breakfast, complimented by a mocha frappe.
I miss cold coffee. Cold coffee with chocolate and whipped cream. Matagalpa has such coffees. So does Esteli, but for whatever reason I only partake here in this city. I really enjoy Matagalpa. I think it is a cooler town than Esteli, itīs just that Esteli is closer and more feasible for me coming from Somoto.
Matagalpa needs to happen more often. As does the beach. I have only been to the beach once, for New Years. I think the beach is way overdue, and there are lots of volunteers in Leon near the beach who go at least once a month. I think an extended weekend might be necessary.
So itīs July 5th. In two months, we are going to celebrate being in Nicaragua for a year. We arrived in country on the 4th of September.

Wow! Thanks for the reality check on how quickly time passes.......however, sometimes it seems that you've been gone forever! We live, we grow, we change. Daily. It's been so fun for me, as your Mother, Molly, to have shared in some of your changes. I do read back into your earlier blogs occasionally, and it's always exciting to listen to you grow.
And change. I am SO anticipating the next time when we get to talk face-to-face. Miss you. Love you. And,....YES!!!
More beach time!!! Definitely!! xo
The "early Mother's Day" shoes are totally a hit.....#1 - with ME, and #2 - with our Nebraska family and everyone else that I saw/met while up there to see Granddad for his 82nd birthday! Oh, yeah, they've already got many many miles, lots of bug spray, fresh cow crap, goat droppings, and fireworks smells on them! Ha! - and they wash up beautifully!
Thank you, Molly; I love them - a cushy ride!
Also, just a couple of days after the thongs arrived (yes, that's what my sisters & I will forever still call them!!! ), we got an envelope with the 2nd book about Nicaragua, the GREAT map, and the Nintendo magazine for Ben! Haven't seen him long enough yet to see if he's been reading it, though; he's turned into a social busybusybusy person. Tennis morning (day off), then a 'day out' with Donna for a summer look at The Strip. Love you! xo
