So I dont know really how much time I have to update. Anyway my classes are going pretty well. Although and good advice or help would be great. Teaching the younger kids English is not easy so any good games or things like that would be awesome. Also if anyone doesnt mind paying the money to send me some Teaching ESL books that would be a god send. My older classes catch on really well though so Im excited about them. Even though David was already my little attachment and uhm maybe kinda my favorite, he has amazed me even more. He is SO smart and picks up English very very quickly. I love it. All the kids are awesome though. I hear Profe! Profe! (profesora is teacher in spanish) or Chelsea! Chelsea! and another one is hugging me or grabbing my hand or something haha Its really sweet. I can see quite a few differences between myself and the other teachers, for one they all have experience and speak fluent spanish, but theyre also not so...young. I mean two of them are 23 and two others are in their 20s but they dont seem so young at heart. At lunch they all sit and eat and chat and I eat and go play soccer or kickball with the kids. I hope they dont think its rude but I know Rachael has explained to them I dont speak Spanish that well so I feel sort of weird. Plus the kids are just awesome. I love sports so I like getting some exercise with them. Although I already get more than enough on my bike ride every day. Lots of up and down hills. Ugh! I love it though because it has some gorgeous views!! Also I like getting back into shape although I am really tired and sore haha.
Its funny because during the day at work I get so exhausted from the heat, the commute, teaching and everything else but once I go home I take a nice cool shower and go to culto and I end up wide awake. Its been hard because Im not going to bed early enough but I think with everyone there hanging out I just get all excited and wired and want to make friends, which I have. The guys all make fun of me because whenever I want a little snack I just eat a small bowl of rice and apparently thats weird because you are supposed to eat it with something else. They also call me Chelsita because the ita ending means little so therefore I am little Chelsea haha. I really enjoy the community here and how everyone just welcomes newcomers into Sabana Grande. I mean Ive been here just over a week and have already made a bunch of friends and been asked to come play sports with them and stuff. Its awesome.
Its strange, the differences between last time and this time. I knew there would be a lot, but some of them have just surprised me. Take for example Chacocente. When I was here before I though it was one of the most wonderful things on the face of this earth. I still do, but oddly enough I am so glad to return to Sabana Grande at the end of the day. Maybe its just because Im so tired or something but just going back to see al my friends each day completely relaxes me and cheers me up. I like being there just as much as Chacocente. By the way, Chacocente got a new big well so now they wont run out of water, which has happened sometimes!! Also, Angela and her family have left but Nelson and Gabriel and Elvin and their mom and family are now permanantly there as are Davids sister Veronica and her family. Also Rosaria had her baby! SO cute!
As for Charito getting married, its some guy she met in the prison ministries in Costa Rica and he lives there although Im pretty sure hes Gringo (from the US) and shes getting married at MY church in Sabana Grande in Nov and Im going! Ah so exciting!
Im also excited for my weekend right now. Time to hang out, do laundry, prepare for next week. SLEEP! :-) Which I could use since I cried to Omar the other day and then my wallet got stolen on the bus last night so I was all frustrated. Sleep might help. haha
Love and miss you all!

Send Private MessageI found a few sites with ESL games. I know that some of them are online games but I figure you could use them for ideas.

Hi Chelsita,
An idea for the younger kids might be flash cards. You know, a picture of a dog on one side and the english word on the other side. To make it more fun, without "punishing" the slower kids, keep track of all the correct answers. Once you reach a preset goal of say, 25 or 100 correct answers then the whole class gets some sort of special prize - a piece of candy, a sticker, game time, etc. It may take several days to accumulate enough correct answers to reach the goal, but that's OK. If the class helps you keep track of the numbers, that also can be done in English.
This can be adapted for older kids by having the Spanish word on one side, rather than a picture. Perhaps the older kids can help you find pictures for the flash cards, and actually help make the younger kid's flash cards as part of their own lessons.
Love you,
Mom
