Leon

So we arrived in Leon, Nicaragua early in the afternoon Saturday. We have been staying at the Big Foot Hostel here and have enjoyed creating amazing meals in the kitchen (not a lie). Special thanks to Aaron and your meat creation you showed me at school, we have been eating that the whole time. Beans, beef, onions, corn, tomato sauce. Delicious.

Sunday. The first whole day we have in Nicaragua and we hear of an "Indian Horse Race" and a cock fight. We definately wanted to check something like this out so we went with a few others to our wonderful day of excessive animal cruelity. To sum things up, the "Horse Race" consisted of 5 riders racing 50meters down a road (with about 200 locals watching). Well the weird part about this race was that it wasn´t about the speed at all. Dangling 4m above the road on a rope stretched across the road was a live duck hanging face down. The winner of the race was the rider that managed to rip the duck´s head off when he sped under it. Wow. The pictures and video show it well (they are not bloody).

After was the cock fight; which is pretty much what you would imagine a cock fight to be. The entrance fee was a hefty 50 cents so we figured we could splurge a little. Ben ended up losing money betting on extremely crappy fighting cocks and Pete walked away with cock blood on his pants. The joys of having front row in a blood bath....


Tuesday we decided to do a volcano hike.... With a twist. Hiking up the volcano was tough, but the fact that we had to lug safety equipment and sandboards up made it even harder. At the summit instead of sandboarding down we decided to sit and were clocked at about 65km/h going down! The best sled ride ever! The slope was about 50 degrees even though the pictures dont show it well.
