Met up with a couple of english guys from huddersfield who were spending a month travelling through central america and we decided to go see one of the fresh water lakes about 45 minutes from Granada where a lot of well to do Nicos & Nicas have their holiday homes.
The taxi driver was great but spoke very little english so I had to act as translator for most of the day because the english lads spanish was so poor.anyway.....great day was had by all....the water was hardly salty at all and really welcome in the heat of 32 to 34 celsius.
FUNNIEST MOMENT OF THE DAY........is when I get some strange looks from the taxista when I return from a swim in the cool and refreshing waters of the lake because the british guys have been spending the last hour or so winding him up and telling him that I prefer guys and not girls. So i make things a littel worse when I make a comment about a german guy who is sunbathing in his speedos and trying to make a joke of it and this only serves to make the situation worse. Afterwards on our trip

around the surrounding towns and villages and back to our base in Granada I spend some time convincing him that I am not a maricon, cangrejo, maripossa or pluma gay as they say here in central and latin america and that by no means do i bat for the other side.
The taxi driver decided to wait around for us to have a swim and take a stroll and sunbathe for an hour or two and then afterwards he decided to take us to a great little pueblo up in the nicaraguan hills called Catarina where we all enjoyed some Nicaraguan Folk type maricahi music and sank another beer with such a great view of the town of Granada, the lake Apoyo and the massive Lake Nicaragua, the biggest in central america.
Have been drinking too much though with the huddersfield lads who always like a few in the afternoon which in the oppressive heat of this country can be disorientating. However, we seem to always go to the same place for 2 or 3 nites in a row and their are faces of other travellers I have met In honudras & the bay islands around this touristy

city of Granada but at least it is better than Anitgua In Guatemala in my opinion.
Manage to find a decent room just behind the cathedral in Granada for the three of us which beats sharing with a few crusty backpackers juggling music playing types in the Bearded Monkey Hostel and the lure of lovely bunk beds...and im still within the $10 that i am setting myself for the cheap countries but i know when i get to Costa Rica, Brasil & Argentina it will be much more expensive.
Im really starting to get to like this country because the people are really friendly with extraneros or strangers and take the time to talk and listen and above all else the prices are really low here unlike Belize, El Salvador & Mexico.
I have also made a concerted decision to go and do some Volcanoe exploring soon here in the coming days instead of just trying to fight of the hangovers or la resaca.- la cruda in spanish every day after binging with the engliosh lads !
