Well here it is -- the last night of heaven here at St. Martin. Apologies about the lack of blog the last 2 nights, the internet at the Oyster Bay Beach Resort randomly quit working and we have been unable to access any websites. Nonetheless, we've been fortunate to be able to spend our last night at the Westin (which is actually on the same beach as the OBBR(we can see it from our hotel). The Westin is amazing -- it's by far the nicest hotel on St. Martin, and is truly paradise. We've taken pictures and will be posting them for the blog, we hope you enjoy them! Everything here is amazingly elegant and oversized, and unfortunately expensive:). Becky and I are having an amazing time here!
As for the past couple of days, not too much happened -- we went and saw another movie - the incredible Hulk this time, and it was very good. I won't give anything away but the movie kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the time. We also took a long drive to the French side of the island and were pleasantly surprised -- the French side is
nicer by far, and the speed limits are ridiculous. On very skinny 2 way roads that were winding, the speed limit was often 70kph, and traffic definitely had no problem keeping up with that speed. One thing that we thought was very cool was that last night, it seemed every native on the island dressed up (and we mean very very spiffy, in the fineries) to go to church. There is rampant poverty everywhere, yet everyone had on pressed church clothes and were attending service. To me it was a wake up call and made me feel very much a slob. It was actually quite inspiring!
Other than that -- just enjoying ourselves! We went snorkling and saw a ton of beautiful tropical fish right outside our hotel. In particular there was a school of almost translucent fish with black fins. Unfortunately we didn't have an underwater camera, but they were amazing.
Tomorrow we're boarding a plane at 4:45 PM so we'll see everyone soon! We officially get back on July 1st, and we're looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.
Love Nick + Becky
