We had a late arrival into Falmouth Jamaica today so it was another leisurely morning. We had breakfast in Park Cafe and wandered the ship for a while. The ship was due to dock at 10:30 and our tour meeting time was 10:15 so we knew we needed to be off as soon as the ship allowed people to go ashore. They made the announcement at 10:15 and we made our way down to deck 3 and then down the escalators to deck 2 to get off the ship. There were no lines and we were off easily. Our meeting area was jam packed with people and we ended up not leaving the port until 11:15. After departing and turning around to pick up more passengers, we were on our way to Dunn's River Falls. The ... read more

In 2014, we spent a week in Jamaica staying with locals but that was on the other side of the island. Although Theresa has been to Ocho Rios before, this will be George´s first visit. After seeing so many ships in port yesterday, we are unsure of taxi availability for today, so have booked a ship tour to the nearby Dunns River Falls. The ride to the falls was short, but our friendly bus driver pointed out all the local landmarks, and also explained how it works inside the falls. We are fascinated by the local Creole language. We like the Jamaican people. We are so glad we bought the water shoes in Florida. They are charging $10 a pair at the falls. We paid that for both our pairs. Our initial intention was to change ... read more

Geo: 18.4888, -77.6558Before we discuss the events of today, I must divulge some information on a little fun I had with Scarlett. I had trouble with her committing to an excursion that I felt both her and Jonathan would enjoy. I know I would like it and Mom loves the water. Prior to leaving on our trip, I inquired as to whether or not Scarlett and Jonathan would like to visit the jungle and tube down a river. It out started simple enough. Al: Queenie, do you want to tube down the White River in Ocho Rios, Jamaica? Slow calm river ride plus Blue Hole, a giant pool of clear water. Not cold. $90 all day. This is private tour as ship tour is sold out.Queenie: Is it clean? Will Mom go with us? Al: Yes ... read more

After arriving at Miami....... We tried to hire a car, but our stolen bag had our drivers licences in it, and the temporary documents we had been sent for a driver licence wasn't enough to hire a car, so we got our personal assistant Jillian our wonderful daughter to post Glens driver licence to us in Miami. We were told 6 days in the post, so we thought we would travel to Jamaica until they arrived. After spending a couple of days looking around Miami we flew to Jamaica. Arriving at Montego Bay we were picked up from the airport by our host family Lenroy and Fiona who ran a small hotel. Lenroy is our age and Fiona is about twenty years younger who had a young baby six months old. We instantly got on with ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Jamaica » Negril October 2nd 2015

This was the first day we'd left our Belmont bubble since we arrived and we were excited. So bright eyed and bushy-tailed that we woke up poor Gherti an hour too early (our phones were still set to Florida time) but we all got a little more sleep, despite the roosters. The drive there was much like the rest of Jamaica, unspeakably beautiful and we arrived outside of Negril beach just before 8 am where Gherti dropped us off for the day and off we went. It was the perfect time of day: too early for the heat and hustlers (or so we thought) and just in time for breakfast. We walked to a hotel restaurant on the beach where I ate aki fruit, breadfruit, and salt fish. It's the breakfast of the locals and it ... read more

So, I think were on our third day in Belmont, Jamaica. Woke up and boiled a pot of fresh Blue Mountain Coffee on our gas stove. Got our morning herbal supplements in order sipped on our coffee and planned our day out. We ended up walking to Bluefields Beach which was suppose to be a little bit up the road, it wasn't. Crystal and I walked about 2-3 miles along this windy road. Cars, motorcycles, buses, taxis, and construction trucks roared down this narrow road way, with us walking along the side. At one point we were walking around a corner and I pulled Crystal back as a HUGE gravel truck blasted and inch from our noses. I looked back to see Crystals eyes as wide as they get and all I could say was the ... read more

Once we got to Belmont we stopped at this local shop to pick up a bread pudding Gertie spoke of on the way. This kind old Jamaican man in front of the shop grabbed us a slice of bread pudding, which would become a part of our daily diet. It was so good, too bad I didn't get the recipe. After the shop Gertie took us down to the beach to meet some of the locals. First person we met was King, he owned a small cook shop on the beach. King provided us with our first Jamaican meal cooked on an open fire. We ate fresh fish(I mean King went and caught the fish for us) drank Red Stripe, and hung out with everyone. That night we also met a smuggler, a very forward local ... read more

Where to start I'm not sure. Grammar sucks, if it's written well that means crystal typed the entry. There we were though flying into Montego Bay, Jamaica. All we had was our packs, a name of a person that was suppose to pick us up, and there cars description. So we had a Red Stripe and waited. Red Stripes in Jamaica taste a whole lot better then back home. Gertie (Lydia Okan), our Rastafarian friend for the next week and the reason our adventure came together, picked us up in her red suzuki. All I knew about her was what I read on facebook and the fact I arranged this meeting. We were off to Belmont, just head south through the mountains to black river then follow the signs to Bluefields. We stayed in a small ... read more

Hi Guys, just a quick blog on my Memorial Day Weekend trip to Jamaica. I was born and raised in Kingston (Yeah yeah I know, everyone is from Kingston LOL) and I moved to NYC in 2002. This trip was my 3rd trip back since I left but this one was exciting than the others since I was going with two friends whom have never been. We arrived in Montego bay late afternoon and I promptly asked our driver to take us to the jerk pit before we head to our resort The grand Palladium Resort and Spa( best jerk chicken and jerk pork ever!!). Most of our time was spent lounging at the pool with rum punches or frolicking by the beach. Of course we went to the infamous Dunns River and i highly recommend ... read more
