Lago De Yojoa
The lake we rowed out to D&D Ale Brewery is in a quiet little town amongst several others situated high in the mountains and has already become another favorite stop of ours!!! Planning on pitching a tent and enjoying the cooler climate in these dizzy heights we took one look .... Just out of interest! at the private room with a fan and somehow pitching tents went on the back burner, so we dropped our bags with a giggle and quickly ordered our ale at the bar. Spending our first night exploring the brewery's grounds and talking to the staff it was clear that there was plenty to do here, even a top 10 things to do listed on the bar wall. Experimenting the different ales with some good food we discussed which activities we fancied doing. We also noticed that we could rent a notebook with movies for 50 Lemps per hour(1pd50), so with a bit of charm and some puppy dog eyes we managed to agree with the boss that we could rent it for the whole evening for the same price as long as the bar was quiet ;-) returning to the room with our first trip to the coffee plantation fast approaching we
snuggled down and fell asleep to a movie.
The coffee plantation was very lushes with so many species of wildlife, amazing colored butterfly's, toucans swallows and parrots are a few that we identified...we think :-/ also many fruits growing off the trees of which we sampled ourselves. The coffee plants were not in season so the beans had not fully developed and were still green so we could not sample the coffee unless we hit Starbucks on the way home. It was a good day out and that evening we shared the experience with the tourist information/tour guide guy who quickly became our unwanted best friend who we have not been able to get rid of since. He means well but persistent is an understatement!!! That night on full stomachs we headed off to bed after some cards and more ale and yes....another movie :-)
On our third day we planned to venture out onto the fresh waters off lago de yojoa, advised to make our way into the town towards the lake and rent some oars of the locals we lined our bellies with the local breakfast....chicken,beans,cheese and fried banana! And set on our way, meeting two guys who
were very welcoming and helpful! So helpful infact that one of them ended up rowing us on a two hour outing on the lake! Which probably was a good thing as when Rosie and I had a go we simply went round in circles!!! Comedy moment for sure. The lake was vast, simply gorgeous and still.....very peaceful. Pulling up at the mountainside we got out of the slightly leaky row boat and got into our swim suits and spent some time floating around in the refreshing water and soaking up some rays. All swam out and ready to move we continued around the lake spotting more wildlife and hola-ing at local fisherman on there boats. Returning back 2 hours later we showed our gratitude to the local and returned back to the hostel exhausted :-/ :-) We spent the evening over cards, ale and yes you got it a movie in bed ohhh and some more stimulating conversation with the tourist guy whos mute button seems to be out of order.
Today over breakfast and chatting to an austrailian couple we all went to what I have to say is the most impressive waterfall we have come across yet!!! Catching the
local buses we made our way to the tourist park and entered not knowing what to expect really, but we were not disappointed as this waterfall was massive and simply powerful, we got as close as we could and got our snaps then retreated a tad to enjoy our grapes and cheesy watsits for lunch :-) after an hour at the waterfalls feet we headed back up through the towns hitch hiking the whole way, one truck took us onto the dusty back roads to deliver some freshly cut cheese to the locals!! A little smelly yes especially when your sat amongst it in the back of a pick up. Getting all the way back to our hostel we introduced the ozies to a few card games and got a tad tipsy throughout the rest of the day :-) this evening our tourist guy had latched onto some others staying at the hostel, so we all enjoyed our food follows by some warm chocolate cake for dessert...hmmmmmm yum!!! Its 2am now and I am wide awake! Hence the blog, Rosie is snoring next to me with the odd comical noise being heard whilst I am on the 3rd back to
the future movie....Mcflyyy!!! Classic. Right that's it, Iam off to sleepy town hopefully!!!! filled with coffee, boats, lakes, waterfalls and the delorean.....night night x
