yep, we worked in a cloud, not fun.
Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't written a blog for a while, but here you go I'm doing you a couple at once. Everythings been quite hectic, after we went to Utila about half the old guys left and we have had some new arrivals: Sarah, Laura, Chris, the irish girls - Deirdra and Elaine, plus Jill and Gaelyn who came a while ago (don't know if I mentioned them). They are all really nice, though we do miss the old gang loads. Sarah and Laura are also in our house, Amy sadly went back home, but it was for the best, [View Full Entry]

First a quick bit about Miami...baaasically it was really really fun. They all live in really cool places and there are loads of cool places, and trees. I like the trees. Aunty Lilian's party was really nice and the food was good (of course). On Sunday she took me shopping and bought me too much stuff so now my bag is heavy. And my straightener doesn't work over here. :( Anyhoo, Monday morning I went to the airport and was chatting to a lady with a baby boy. Her name was Anna and she was French living for some reason in [View Full Entry]

The lights don't work (we have since replaced them), dark and cold.
At the mo, I am teaching mon-wed, building thurs & fri, and also as we finish these at 12 each day we have been painting a nursery in the afternoons - I know I am a saint. But really the nursery was shocking, its for kids with no dads whose mothers work, and there is literally nothing there. The walls were filthy and in the bedroom area there was one cot and a few blankets on the floor. So with the money that Amy & Peter had raised before they came out here we've been painting it and are hoping to [View Full Entry]

Hello all, Still having a great time here, off to copan ruins tomorrow morning, the bars there are open until 12 rather than 9.30 as they are here - least it means we have an early night though - we have to get up at 6am. Started teaching properly now, which is going really well. The kids are quite different over here, they are so curious and friendly. The like to hold your hand and tickle you and are really enthusiastic in lessons. I'm definitely enjoying it, we only teach mon-wed though, and are building thurs & fri, which is a [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone, Hope everyone's keeping well. Well we are due to start teaching tomorrow finally, for those of you who don't know the first school we were at was only a temporary school until the larger one re-started (it was there holidays). So all this week we have been building - which was suprisingly good fun, but hard graft. We've been singing in the pit, and playing games, and getting a bit sunburnt. Plus Ed (dark hair) has been entertaining us with his questions, i.e: most recent one was 'whats the difference between a cow and a bull, other than the [View Full Entry]

Hello, Just a quick message... Well we arrived in La esperanza yesterday after a long long bus journey, but luckily it allowed us to see the beautiful countryside - its so hilly and green, covered in pine trees. There are 15 of us here who arrived on the same day, plus 3 guys already here, so theres a really good community feel to the place and everyones getting on really well. Me and Amy (18, very nice) got taken to our homestay, staying with Ana, Maria, Julian and Maria's 2 kids Sayar (8) and Francis (14). The house is quite nice, [View Full Entry]

After my 2 week stay in Copan de Ruinas I decided to have a little R & R. I picked the little colonial town of Gracias which is located in the department (or state) of Limpira. Gracias was founded in about 1536 by Capt. Juan de Chavez- a Spanish conquistiador. Apparently he had been looking for a long time for a flat enough place to build a city. When he came upon this place he supposedly said " Gracias a dios que hemos hallado tiera llana"- thanks be to God we have finally found flat land. So that is how the [View Full Entry]

Uno de mis alumos:)
I have been a teacher for six years, and every year I love it even more than the previous year. For the past few years I have been teaching English as a Second Language at an elementary school in Des Moines, Iowa. Over 80 percent of my students were Spanish speakers, and I had the opportunity to work with the families of these students as well as with the students themselves and the community. When an opportunity to teach in Honduras I came up, I jumped at it. I flew down to San Pedro Sula to originally teach first grade, however, [View Full Entry]
