Vacation Courses: Scouts

The School year here runs from February through November, so vacation time is december and january. During this time, they have "Vacation Courses" at the ranch to take up the time. It is kinda like summer camp or summer school, depending if the kid needed more reinforcement in school or were failing a class. Courses were anything from Math or Spanish to Karate, Soccer, Dance or Music. All the kids attend 3 courses, each is an hour and a half. They have courses from 8am-1pm, lunch, then they all work for 2 hours (chopping the grass with a machete), rest/chores/shower, dinner and regular evening time in hogar. Each volunteer was assigned to help with a vacation course and I was in Scouts. We had all of the littlest kids, so it was basically like a summer day camp. We played little circle games and sang songs. It was funny because several of the songs/games we did were the same as some I used to play at Ramapo (the camp i worked at in New York) just translated and changed slightly to fit the language. Small World. The last couple days, we made a fire, cooked "pan y dulce de leche" (bread with this sugary milk stuff on it) and hiked in the woods and went swimming. It was really fun because I got to work with the little ones. Here are some cute pictures.
