Background: Once part of Spain's vast empire in the New World, Honduras became an independent nation in 1821. After two and a half decades of mostly military rule, a freely elected civilian government came to power in 1982. During the 1980s, Honduras proved a haven for anti-Sandinista contras fighting the Marxist Nicaraguan Government and an ally to Salvadoran Government forces fighting leftist guerrillas. The country was devastated by Hurricane Mitch in 1998, which killed about 5,600 people and caused approximately $2 billion in damage.

Hey everyone, Sorry that it has been a while, but I am really busy all of a sudden. There seems to be an endless stack of papers to grade. Also, I started Spanish lessons for three hours, two days a week, I am coaching girls basketball, and I am tutoring a little 5 year old boy two days a week. I am starting to not like having 6 different classes, because there is so much stuff to do for them. The girls basketball team is fun, but a lot of them are really whiny and practice is tiring. We had our [View Full Entry]

Hey, First of all, I have been really busy with school and havenīt had time to post pictures. I will do that next week hopefully. To answer some questions. Yes I have met the kids. Most of them are really great, but one of my fourth grade classes is really difficult to handle. All the other teachers agree with me. The structure of the school makes it so I teach 6 classes a day, 2 in fourth grade, 2 in fifth grade, and two in sixth grade. I am also the homeroom teacher for one of the sixth grade classes, which [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone, The internet is finally working at the school, so I decided to start this blog. I will try too write entries about what is going on and post pictures here. It took me a while to get here since my plane in Denver was delayed. I had to stay the night at the Marriot in Miami. When I finally got to the airport in San Pedro Sula, Roy, the cousin of the director of the school was waiting for me. Both my bags arrived, and we drove about 45 minutes to Puerto Cortes. I went to the house and [View Full Entry]

Our last day in Roatan was another chilled out yet busy day. We began by swimming through another run. We then sat around for the morning recovering but as you have probably gathered this is not a bad spot to do nothing. We were very much looking forward to the afternoon as we were booked on for a dive which is, after all, what the island is famous for. We both have dived in many locations around the world but this is definitely the clearest water we have been in. There are as many dive sites as you have days to [View Full Entry]

Have decided to rest here for a day or two before I head south through this country to the capital. The people are very laid back and the weather is reasonable so I wander around and decide to take some fotos. The Beach is not as clean as Placencia in Belize because apparently they have had bad storms here a few years ago which have taken a lot of the white sand away but nevertheless the scenery around this one time fishing village is amazing ! Not too many people taking in the sunshine though because I seem to be about [View Full Entry]
