our hotel, Maya Vista. Oh the Honchos (roosters for those of you who haven't been following along). They never stop their doodling.
Sadly, it's a little bit overcast & drizzly this morning. We are really looking forward to the sun. It's been awhile it seems. Breakfast on the restaurant deck overlooking the bay was really nice though. Working on our plans for the Bay Islands. Where to stay, where to dive, how to get there, etc, etc. It's so fun to plan the next steps. We don't usually have to plan this much but with the diving & the fact that the Islands are the most touristy place we will have been in Honduras, we have to actually make reservations! What an unusual concept.
After breakfast we headed into town & walked along the beach. The beach goes on forever in this bay. It's white/black sand & such fine soft sand. Since it's Sunday, everything in town is closed & apparently everyone goes to the beach. People are all over, bbq-ing, drinking, playing soccer on the beach. I love that the entire town is completely shut down. We talked with some guys about renting a boat for a tour of Punta Sal &

full of water they sell. No hands! the park but we need at least 3 more people. We'll see if we can round anyone up. We also talked with Garifuna tours who has organized tours to the point. We'll check them out in the morning if it's a nice day.
We walked across the river into Nueva Tela & promptly found a small restaurant grilling up pork for tacos. We stopped and had the best plate of nachos! Then we continued walking along the beach toward the Hotel Telamar, which we'd been told had the best stretch of beach. It didn't seem that different to me than the rest of the beach, it's all really lovely. But, they have beach chairs & as gringos it's pretty easy to snatch one. We sat in the sand on our blankets for awhile but quickly I found some chairs to use & gave the extra one to an American couple who had the same plan as us. Mike & Liz, biologists from New Hampshire & Ohio respectively. We spent the afternoon with them & swapped travel tips again. They're heading in the opposite direction as us so it's easy to swap info. The sun came out in full force
Mr. Taco
He's so cute! & we loved every second of it. Nothing beats the beach, the ocean, & a hot sunny day. The ocean is getting warmer & warmer as we head south. I love it!!
After getting roasty toasty & bit burnt we headed back home. High pressure shower & to the deck to wifi with a cold glass of white wine. Lovely.
Peter arrived from Lago Yojoa & joined us for a drink. After uploading some pics & emails & such we headed out to town to find dinner. We were all joking about using our room keys as weapons if we were to have an altercation. The keys are attached to the longest piece of wood. Our mallets. Watch out would be robbers! We walked all over town & back & forth to find a restaurant. The first few places we went were kinda spendy so we kept moving on. As usual we were sent in various directions for a restaurant that someone on the street recommended to us. We finally were directed to a new & very inexpensive restaurant on the water. It was super good. Shrimp fried rice for Geoff & grilled fish for me. So good.
Nachos!
Thanks Mr. Taco! We had some funny conversations with Peter. He's got quite the dry sense of humor.
On our walk home we saw this guy who had made a buggy/car/thingy out of an old Datsun. It was original to say the least. He said it always got people's attention. I guess that would help his chip sales increase. He had a chip/snack stand on a cart, that he would pull with his Datsun. Inventive.
Back to the hotel & the boys went to the bar, I went to bed. Just too sleepy after all that sun.
