Burger vs. LobsterAt Donray's birthday dinner @ a seafood restaurant. Jills is allergic to seafood so she brought her own dinner. lol.
Happy Mother's Day!
Thought I would share some recent happenings...
Donray's Birthday - Friday, May 4th For Donray's birthday, a bunch of us went out for dinner at a new seafood restaurant. It was delicious! Donray gets swelling in his mouth and throat when he eats seafood. Sometimes gets an upset stomach too but he loves it so much that he eats it every year for his birthday. Silly boy. He ended up being not too bad actually.
Chris's brother Nick is visiting from the States so he was there too. He's been a riot to hang out with as well.
After dinner, we went to Sangria's from some celebratory drinks. I honestly hadn't planned on staying too long but ended up closing down the bar! It was a good night. Had a chat with Jairo actually. We hadn't spoken since we broke up in November and so it was slightly awkward to start. He asked me to dance so we danced then chatted. Turns out my Spanish has now surpassed his English she we spoke in Spanish the whole time. He told me his fiance is pregnant. Guess that explains the quick engagement. He kept asking about
My Students on StagePerforming the Song "Siyahamba" in 4 languages: Spanish, English, French, and Zulu. "We are marching in the light of God."
Walter too. He was sleeping since he had to be up early the next day. Oh drama. Anyways, it made me appreciate Walter so much more. lol.
Mother's Day Presentation at School - Thursday, May 10th Each of the classes prepared a small presentation for the mothers and then we had an evening of performances for the mothers at school. My class had already been working on a song in class, just for fun (since they apparently don't get to sing much in Music class) so we decided to present that. The kids had a lot of fun doing it.
There were a lot of other great performances as well. It was an enjoyable night. I always like spending time outside of class with my students. So much more fun to be around.
After the presentation, a bunch of us decided to head out to Villa Real for some good ol' quality Honduran karaoke! What a riot that was! Nick was a singing machine and did about 5 songs including Love Shack (with D-ray singing the female part), Wonderwall, Take on Me, Bohemian Rhapsody (with Chris), and a few others I can't remember. Meg sang some "Friends in
Low Places" with her Tennessee twang. Leah and I sang "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". I also did some Spice Girls, Tracey Chapman, and even found some Amanda Marshall! lol. Good night.
Mother's Day Breakfast at the Centre - Saturday, May 12th The Centre was putting on a breakfast for all of the mothers. They also had special guests visiting from the United States; pastors from churches in Florida, and California I think.
Alisa, Leah, and I showed up at the Centre nice and early... 7:30am, just like the invitation said. No one was there. This is pretty typical of Honduras. We call it "Honduran Time". It was good that we were there though because we had a chance to tape down the linolium floor that they bought for us for the ballet presentation.
Yes, we had to do a ballet performance. We decided just to do a demonstration instead, since these kids were far to basic for a choreographed routine. It went really well though.
There were songs performed by the kids, a game of "hot potato" played with a doll and passed between the mothers for prizes, as well as a couple folkloric dance performances. It was
ArabesqueLeah and I help the students show what an arabesque is.
a really nice presentation. Better than our school's one we thought. The kids were just so excited about the ballet performance. Some even went out and bought little tights and bodysuits and skirts. So adorable.
Last night Walter came over for some wine with Alisa, Donray, and I, and then we went to Sangria's for some drinks. Another enjoyable night spent at Morgan's bar. We are so lucky that he opened that this year. It's been a great spot for us.
And today... Mother's Day. Feliz Dia to all those mothers reading this. I hope you have a wonderful day. To my own Mother, I am sorry that I cannot be with you today. I hope that you have a wonderful day and remember just how much you are appreciated. You have provided me with so much throughout the years, and have been the glue in our family. For everything that you do, and everything that you are, I love you.
D-ray's Birthday DinnerThe group of us at dinner. Clockwise from me: Alisa, Donray, Jeff (hidden), Nick (Chris' brother visiting), Chris, Leah, and Jill
DizzleDonray aka D-ray aka Dizzle, is also allergic to seafood but every year on his birthday allows himself to swell up slightly. Silly boy with his King Crab.
Sabdy-DooThis is one of Alisa's students. Her name is Sabdy but I call her Sabdy-Doo because he name fits nicely to the tune of "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah"
Mothers"God couldn't be in all parts. For this he created Mothers."
MegCuz she's "got friends in loooow places"
Loving the face she makes when she does her Tennessee accent.
"Prohibar Orinar"If you look closely there is a sign that means "Prohibited to Urinate". Funny, because this is the wall that everyone pees on. In fact, it smells so bad walking past it, that we call it "the pee wall"
On TimeThis is what happens when you show up on time for things in Honduras. You're the only ones around. This was for the Mother's Day Presentation at the Centre.
"Mami"A few of the kids singing a song for their Moms.
"Backstage"Waiting to go out and sing a song for the Moms.
Group SongThe children and staff sing a song to the Mothers
More Dance! Some of the kids from the centre perform some folkloric dancing as well.
The BoysDavid, Walter, and Kenny at Sangria's.

Sarah....well, if your Mom isn't crying after your beautiful Mother's day tribute to her......I am!!!! Your Mom really is special....as a Mother to you....as a friend to me.....Love you Sandy!!!! Thanks for your good wishes to all of us Mom's. Great pictures!
What Sarah fails to make known in her blog was the beautiful bouquet of freshly-cut flowers and extremely touching, heartfelt message Sarah had delivered to her mom's workplace for Mother's Day. And the exceptionally well-timed telephone call Sarah made home to mom from a Honduran internet cafe. Even though you weren't with us physically, Boo, your spirit was all around us. Your mom couldn't have been more happy, Sarah. Thank you. Love, now and always, DAD XXX OOO
