When it was close to the time to leave Bocas del Toro we needed crew for the long voyage from Bocas to Providencia to Roatan. So my dad had my cousin Steven put up fliers to see if anyone wanted to crew. Then 2 days later a girl named Maria emailed my dad saying that she wanted to go on the trip. Two days later we left with my Mom, my Dad, Maria and I. The first day we were out it was really rolly so we couldn't do much and we didn't see any sea life. The next day it was super calm and there was a really cool sunrise. That day I played dice with my dad but my dad won. That night there was a super cool moon rise because there was a full moon and the clouds were making it look like a Halloween night. The next day at around noon we got to Isla Providencia. The water was so clear that it looked like it was 8 feet of water, but it was really 20 feet of water which I thought was pretty cool. When we came in there was a small point with two canons.
Providencia was a port for pirates and also Henry Morgan's fort. Because there was a lot of shipping traffic in that area the pirates were able to raid a lot of ships. The first day we were at Providencia we had to check into Columbia because although we were not close to the mainland of Columbia, Columbia owned this island. The check in was pretty easy. Bush the agent who checked us in suggested that we go to this restaurants on the other island. After the paper work was all settled we started walking to the other island. We kept walking and when we got to the other island there was a path that just never ended and we kept walking and eventually we turned back. We got a drink at a restaurant and went back to the boat to play cards (Maria and I won). The next day we went snorkeling and we saw some really cool fish but the visibility was worse then the day we came in. That night we taught Maria how to play Hand and Foot (Maria and I won). The next day we went shopping because we were leaving later that day. When we
were in town my dad had to check out of Providencia. So he had to go to an office on the other side of the island and the only way he could get there was by motorcycle. He had to go on a motorcycle because they didn't have any cars. After we were done with shopping and all settled in on the boat we pulled up anchor for a 3 day cruise to Roatan. The first day it was super rolly and since it was rolly we couldn't do much. The next day it was so rolly and the current was going against us so we were only moving 2 knots. That day we had our fishing line out and there was this blue fish trailing our hook and once it took the hook it went out super fast. It took that fish 2 minutes to completely take all the line of that reel even with somebody trying to reel it in. That fish was a huge marlin. After that Maria saw her first dolphin which she was amazed to see. The next day was 2nd ½ day at sea with no site of land since we left Providencia. That
day we saw lots of flying fish and dolphins. Finally, the wind was going the way we wanted and it was strong which gave us a huge boost. The wind was so good that all day and all night we didn't turn the motor on once. The next day early in the morning we were really close to Roatan and my dad decided to wait for the sun to come up so we clearly see the marina entrance and the sun rise was really cool. After there was enough light we started moving into our marina. After we were all settled in we went to the pool at the marina and I read for a bit because the water was freezing cold. That night it was Christmas Eve so we went to our friends the Pease's who were staying on the other side of the island. That night we exchanged presents with one another. After that was done we ordered our meals. Then we went back to our boat. The next day we went out snorkeling we saw some really cool fish and coral. Steven found a big lobster under the rock. After that we just went back to the
boat and relaxed until dinner. At dinner time we went over two our friends hotel again to have a buffet. Before dinner Maddy and I went out kayaking. After dinner Jessie and Mike taught me Cribbage and my parents learned Norwegian rummy from Maria. The next day their family came over for the day to swim and snorkel close to the marina. While they were at our place Mike taught me how to fly fish. The next day pretty early Maddy, Maria my mom and I went to the iguana farm where there were supposed to be 8 different types of them and 3,000 iguanas. When we first got there there were only 2 iguanas and we were disappointed, but somebody told us that they would start coming out once the sun came out. After the sun came out we saw 20 iguanas and I got to hold one. When Maddy tried to hold the iguana it scratched her. After that there whole family came over to the boat to cruise over to their hotel in our boat. When we got out there it was a little rolly but it wasn't too bad. When we got to their place we
ha to find a mooring ball and there were coral heads all over the place which made it tricky. After we were all settled we went into town to have dinner.. For dessert I had a really tasty chocolate fudge cake. The next day my dad and I signed up for a dive through a dive shop which was my first dive since I got my certification. On that dive we saw a turtle, snapper, and a tarpin. I got to dive a wall which is a reef that goes straight down which I liked. There were some really cool corals and there was a skinny channel. Stay tuned for my 2 month stay in Roatan, Honduras.

hey andrew!
Hi you, thanks for the great update! I always wanted to know what Christmas is like in a warm country-especially on a boat. Looks like fun! That fish sounds amazing - you are learning so much this year! We just had a humungous snow storm and the power was out for 2 days! Luckily we could cook on the fire and read by candlelight. We also had a huge tree leaning over our house with heavy snow on it so we had to sleep on one side of the house just in case it fell on us. Yikes! You look so cool scuba diving - how was it? Did you remember how to do it? Was it very different from diving at sand harbor? The iguanas sound interesting too. I think they're pretty scary-looking - you're brave! Anyway, have fun!
