Haitian sailboat
Near St Marc Haiti Saturday December 9th 2006
We lifted anchor during early morning at 6:15am, with a last wave from the friendly villagers along the shore line as we set sail for our next destination Montrouis. As we sailed out of the harbor we meet up with many of the local fishermen, who also kindly waved too us in farewell. One thing for sure is we will be returning to this amazingly undiscovered place.
Montrouis is some 90 nautical miles south east from Le Mole Saint Nicolas making the trip about a ten hour crossing. The weather was on the very calm side, making the Windward Passage between Cuba and Haiti a very calm one, so we ended up having to motor sailed the entire way as the wind and seas stayed incredibly calm throughout the day. The scenery was one to take your breath away with endless rolling mountains as we sailed (motored sailed) along. We arrived in Montrouis at 4:30pm, where we took our awaiting mooring pennant. After we where settled in we went ashore too meet up with our awaiting friends, as to share a great Creole dinner before heading back aboard for some greatly needed rest.
