Zipping through Panajachel

We’re sorry - did we say we were going to climb a volcano? We meant that we were going to get up at the crack of dawn and wait for an hour on the curb until we realized that they were not, in fact, coming to get us. As Shalea pointed out, it’s not the U.S. These things happen. We were pissy nonetheless. But not being so fond of the stew, we decided to get the hell out of dodge. We allowed our crazy-haired old landlord to call and yell at the agency who bailed on us and we switched our worthless volcano voucher for a shuttle to Panajachel, right on the shore of Lago Atitlán. This involved frantic packing and the idiots actually sending the shuttle 20 minutes early. But we were off. (We will definitely come back to Antigua and do the climb up the volcano though - stay tuned.)

How to describe the shuttle trip? Shalea actually still wants to throw up at the mere thought of the shuttle trip. It was 2 hours on (let’s call them) windy roads, with speed bumps, lots of pedestrian and cyclist traffic, a very nice driver with a very foul mouth who spent way too much time on his cell phone and had brought along his wife and small child. (Shalea woke up when we made a pit-stop for his child to pee on the side of road and got really excited thinking that we were there. We weren’t.)

Enough complaining. We made it to Panajachel and the car sickness wore off quicker than we had expected!!! We booked our room at a mid-range hotel that swears it has hot showers with some sort of water pressure. We promptly fell asleep. But then we woke up. And Shalea decided that since she didn’t manage to put Arantxa’s life in jeopardy that morning, she was going to do it now. Her new plan? Zip-lining in the jungle!!!

Off we went to the Reserva Natural. All we have to say right now is that zip-lining rocks. And nobody died. We’ve had so many conversations this afternoon about how much it rocks that we really are all out of words for you guys.

We’d like to tell you our exciting plans for tomorrow, but after this morning’s fiasco, we think we’ll keep it to ourselves. It’s bad enough that we’re being disappointed - we don’t want you to be too....

(Seriously though - we’re just really good at being cranky. But we’re having an awesome time!!!!!)
