We arrived in Monterrico after a very long confusing day of travel. We had 18 people in a 12 passenger van. Pretty crazy but if I remember correctly it only cost us around a dollar for an hour ride.
In town we walked to our hostel and a little boy helped us find it. His name was Verando and he became our friend the entire time we stayed there. We walk into our hostel, JOhnnys, and it might be the most amazing thing ever. There are palm trees, hammocks, and sand everywhere. Each little shack had its own individual ´pool.
The waves in Monterrico were extremely large. It was very scary at some points. The undertow was so strong if you stood in the water it would knock you over. We swam in it anyways haha. James Ben Vernado and I swam in the dangerously large waves for alot of the time, there wasnt much else to do. The hostel had tons of hammocks, which we took advantage of, and I slackline, which was pretty fun to brush up on.
Something cool about Monterrico is that the sand on the beach is black. It is black from all the volcano ash. If you get a chance look on Google Images at the black sand. Its really awkward and really hot. Before dinner, when the sand had cooled off, Ben James and I got together and decided it was time for the gringos to show our skill in a little beach futbol. Some locals spread the word in town and before we knew it there was roughly twenty hispanic men and kids, and the three guys. We played for almost an hour and a half and after that everyone was dead tired because running on sand is most likely the most difficuly thing ever. All in all it was fun.
There were two German Girls, two australian girls, two swedish girls, and an english guy named james. We all got along great and spent all day and night together while we were there. We all sat around the bar and ate Hamburgers, while listening to the waves crash.
The next day we left in the morning, having to take a water taxi to the next town. The water taxi took us through some ridiculously amazing mangroves. It was about a fifteen minute ride.
We only stayed in Monterrico for one night and we both kinda wish we would have stayed for longer.
