Paradise

Paradise island.

Last weekend I went with a friend to an island near Monterico. We took three chicken buses and a boat to an island on such a hot day. It took about five hours but boy was it worth it! The local buses are interesting to say the least. You sit two to a seat but when the bus fills up which it always does people just tend to come and sit on your lap, forcing you to move up and they kind of put one cheek on the seat. When two people do this it works quite well as they can then lean across the isle onto each other and therefore you can fit six people across, it's very cosy but it just works. I've realised personal space is not a big thing here. The other thing I love is the sale pitch you get every time you stop anywhere. It's kind of like the shopping channel in front of you! People just hop on the bus at every opportunity and do a little speech then walk up the bus giving you what it is they are trying to sell. Then they walk back down the bus and take the item back or you pay, we bought a book, drinks, some kind of ointment for cooling you down but we managed to resist the food..one woman had a whole roast chicken on her head!!
Anyway the journey was really fun and so worth it. The island was virtually deserted. We had a sea view directly out of our bungalow, with hammocks and a private pool. It was bliss after our hard work during the week. I walked up the beach and saw lots of pelicans and never saw another soul it was just beautiful.
We had a go at boogie boards in the sea which was great fun even though the pacific was a little rough for me. Seeing the milky way at night was pretty special too as it was so dark and watching the sunset on the beach is always magical ah bliss......
