As we wind down our year here I'm starting to get a little sentimental about leaving Guatemala. I hope this entire blog has been able to show the gentle reader why we have enjoyed this country so much, but now I want to take just a moment to mention another reason we have been so happy here: we live in a lovely house! When we arrived last August we had rented a pretty typical modern colonial house located quite near the central park. You can see more of that place by clicking this link to [View Full Entry]

Looking down at the living room
Thunbergia flowers hanging from our patio
Boo-Boo and Black...

So after our rather wet week spent in San Pedro we headed back to our favourite place in the world (not) - Antigua. We had to pass through it to leave Guatemala anyway and as we had missed the opportunity to climb up Volcan Pacaya (a must do activity when it Antigua) due to some bad belly problems we took the chance to do it on our way back through. The original plan was to arrive in Antigua, check back in to the hostel we were at last time, and go straight up the volcano. Funny how a 3 hour [View Full Entry]

We are here! Im not feeling like writing much at the moment (One because I need to figure out the keys, two because I am a bit under the weather and want to sleep :) But just wanted to say that... it feels good (but a little strange) to be back! And we are here safe and sound. Saludos a todos! [View Full Entry]

Well here it is a long awaited updated...again! Unfortunately it looks like we´re not going to be updated this as often as expected! What with no internet, broken internet, slow internet, and power cuts, we´ve not been having much luck. But here goes. So after San Cristobal, we headed to Palenque, which was an interesting trip, as there was apparently some kind of blockade that was not letting anyone through the usual route. This meant that rather than a 4 hour journey, we were on the bus for 8 hours. Palenque was pretty amazing - we stayed in a little backpackers [View Full Entry]

Guatemala
The boarder crossing
This is quite a short blog. It covers about three weeks. We spent most of it in Antigua, Guatemala doing a Spanish course. The rest was rushing through central America getting to Panama to fly over to South America. So there isn't too many exciting photos. Anyway... As soon as we crossed over into Guatemala from Mexico we noticed a difference, the landscape changed. First of all it was a lot greener. But the landscape was very volcanic, it reminded us of South Thailand. The other thing that stood out were the buses that whizzed pass with black smoke spewing out [View Full Entry]

Granada

2 months, a 1 hour taxi journey, a 12 hour bus journey, overnight in San Salvador, a 2 hour chicken bus and finally Nick surfs! As the transport strike in Nicaragua was still in full swing, and the locals getting more extreme, we decided it was time to leave...dissappointed not to have seen everything the country had to offer, but we were still happy enough to be leaving the heat behind us. We could have headed south to costa rica, but we had heard it was much harder to get transport to and through the border than to elsewhere within the [View Full Entry]

Dear All, If you have taken time out of your day to navigate all the way to this page to read what I´m doing over the other side of the world then thank you. Unfortunately, I am having some trouble with this blog website and don´t seem to be able to access it easily in some places. So, I´ve decided to move my jottings to this webpage here: http://jencentralamerica.blogspot.com/ It´s more of a blog (urgh, I hate that word) website than a travel blog website, but it allows me show photos etc more easily - and I know you all want [View Full Entry]
