Well, it's hard to believe that our first week here is almost over - where does the time go?
We arrived in Grenada last Saturday night, only to discover that Tiff's bag had decided to get off the plane in Tobago (luckily she got it the next day). We spent Sunday pretty much getting settled - buying groceries, getting Grenadian driver's licenses, and then heading to the beach. The closest beach is about 10 minutes by car and it's beautiful white sand.
Since then we've been at the shelter, mostly seeing vaccine appointments, and LOTS of ticks, fleas, and Demodex. Our parasite control will be bang on after our month here! There are lots of what the locals call "pot hounds" here, which are basically dogs that were fed the leftovers from "the pot". There are dogs everywhere - street dogs, who have homes, but spend the days roaming around. Quite different from home!
We've met many friendly people, including those working here at the GSPCA, as well as a few American/Puerto Rican vet students that attend the vet school here at St. George's University. Tomorrow, another vet student is arriving from Finland, so hopefully she'll be lots
of fun!
After we're done at the clinic for the day, we genereally head to Grand d'Anse beach (see pics), in the car pictured below... we also call it the Death Trap... the roads are quite narrow, winding, and hilly, and the driving is on the opposite side of the road... today was the first day I didn't really fear for my life in that car (nothing against Tiff's driving of course...). We've had a couple of roti's here, which is apparently the Carribean burger - very tasty!
Well, that's about it for now. We're supposedly heading up to Carriacou next week, which is a little island just off the Grenadian coast to do a vaccine/flea control clinic there, and we're hoping to hit up "Fish Friday" and maybe a hash soon - have to try and get the whole Grenadian experience!
Cheers,
Alle and Tiff
