our amazing apartment on the beach... 4 dollars haha
After taking a boat and about 3 buses we arrived at the Salvador border. We did not have a map or any clue where to go in this country but only word from a guy working at the hostel that El Zonte was a great place to surf. Luckily we met 2 Agentinans, Hernán and Mariano, and a Canadian girl traveling with them. They are amazing, selling hand made bracelets to fund their travels. We didnt realize how much better it is traveling with people who can speak spanish so well!

After our third bus in Salvador the bus driver said he ended his shift and dropped us off in the middle of nowhere. Hernan, master of negotiating, managed to get him to drive us the rest of the way, 10K, to Zonte (a town he had no idea was there). We have been in Zonte since tuesday and love it. All the hotels were a little pricey and touristy, but hernan was able to talk to one of the locals and get an apartment that was for rent. This place is right off the beach and we crammed all of us in there to make it very cheap. The

we lost all the good surf pics on petes camera and all we have are a few from mine...
others sleep 3 to a full bed and Pete and I get a bunk making it only $4 a night for each! Right on the beach, with hammocks on our porch.

These guys are the definition of budget travel. We hitch into libertad to buy food from the market and keep the costs to about a dollar a day for all 3 meals, cooking over a fire that we can build just off of our porch. This is the life. Beachside resort, chocolate colored shower water, and great surfing (we still suck).

The sand is still black and the water is still so warm and we had some great pictures but the girl, Cat, accidently lost Pete's waterproof camera taking pictures of us surfing. AH! She was nice enough to give him money for it, but it is still a bummer.

There are hardly any tourists in Zonte and we get to hang out with the locals all day long. Our spanish is getting great. No computer in the town so we can only write when we go into libertad. The plan is to head out of our little paradise town soon and go to honduras.

Viaje!
Cousins! Love the blog and hearing what you are doing and imagining being in your shoes. Just talked to your mom today and she tells me you are headed to Utila. Jason and I stayed there and Roatan, about a week and a half total. Good for you for getting certified. You will see amazing stuff! Huge sponges you can swim into! Too bad about Pete's camara. I learned to keep all valuables in zippered pockets, close to my body, especially on market days and on the busses. We liked Roatan better and stayed there longer. It's a little more expensive though, but less hectic and crowded. Do a night dive if you can, since the water is so warm. Are the sand flies biting you to pieces? Skin So Soft oil does the trick and keeps them away and is not toxic on your sun burned skin. Copan in Honduras is awesome. We were chinsey and didn't go to the main museum there because it was 13$ or something(a fortune in Central America), but regretted it later. I would do it. Also you can take horses to other sites and ruins which sounded cool but we ran out of time. Give yourself 2 days to see it, you came all that way, might as well make it worth it. PS landing on the airport at Utila is knarally, a knuckle biter. Did you like El Salvador? Remember to be cautious in the ocean...stitches or an injury in a foreign country are not sanitary and will put a damper on your trip. Also...stay together and watch out for eachother. We love you so much. You will remember this trip forever!!!!! Andale! PSS I will tell Jack Johnson hi for you when I see him surfing. HaHa Love, Nancy, Jason,Cuyler and Catalina
