The owners of Coco hotel and I went to Cabarete for the weekend. Cabarete is a fantastic place where all the actions is on the beach. It is a surf paradise, so looking out at the sea (surfing and wind surfing) and up at the sky (kite surfing) is a celebration of colours. The beach is long and wide, and has beautiful yellow sand. Along the middle section of the beach, there are bars in all shapes and forms. Restaurant in the day time, bar and restaurant in the evening, and bar, nightclub in the night The atmosphere is chilled and relaxed, some people get dressed up, whilst some still wear their beachwear when the rhythms start taking over.
Cabarete is the kind of place where you can find action and chill all at the same time. People there in general seem laid back and enjoying the Caribbean way of life. Cabarete is a tiny village with the main road running straight through it, on either side of the road you fins shops with clothes for most water sports, and plenty of beach wear. We stayed in Kaoba hotel whish is a pleasant hotel with Cabañas (cabins/huts) situated around
a pool.
On the Saturday in Cabaret Dustin and Darius came up to spend the day at the beach with us. It was a great day down the beach, enjoying sun, sea, and freshly cur fruit from the Haitian ladies that sell cheap fruit all over the beach. The day however did have a downside to it….. I ventured into the water and got knocked over by the waves. Once under the water the current held me under, to the point where I was starting to panic at the thought of drowning. When I was under water I managed to slightly twist my knee and get it all scraped up, so that left me with a swollen and bloody knee for the next days to come. The second downfall was my own fault completely! I forgot to put sun tan lotion in some areas, which resulted in my skin catching a lovely colour of baby piglet pink. You cannot imagine how sore his was the next day…… OUCH
The evening was spend at one of the beach restaurants eating fish food and enjoying the lovely ambiance of this great place and surrounded by great people. As many of
the words are different here to Castellano (Spanish), it is easy to order the wrong thing. So when I ordered shells, and got shrimps I complained of course. The waitress looked at me slightly confused and told me that was what I had ordered…. So yet another word that means something completely different.
The rest of the weekend was spent just relaxing and charging batteries before the working days would set in at the Coco Hotel. And this is definitely the best place for just that. I loved it. The energy was positive and the karma was good, and I hope that some day I can go back here and spend a whole week
CabareteThis is how many people live in DR. Standard of life is low, but they make the best of what they got.
