Another bumpy night on the high seas but well worth it. We got off the boat ready for a day in Roseau, Dominica. This little island is 27 miles long and 14 miles wide and has numerous simmering volcanos. (Sorry for the miles - its easier to except the American way to continuously try and convert all measurements into metric!)
We again decided to do our own thing and after some crafty negotiation by Steve we hired a guy to drive us around the island and give us a tour. Our first stop was the sulfur springs - this is a direct result of the volcanos - which incidentially has not erupted for 450yrs…
After a quick look, we went to Trafalgar Falls and hot springs - Dominica’s most popular tourist attraction. After a short 15-minute walk, thru a beautiful rainforest, we found two large waterfalls and hot springs below the waterfalls. I guess the only let down on the whole place was the American tourists who are incrediably frustrating and rude. There was a one person path to the hot springs - yet these idiots decided to put all there stuff down and dip in the springs where
ever they could without any consideration of people having to pass. I guess they may have been a little shocked that I stood over them until they moved!
Anyway, after that we went down to the Botanical garden where our tour guide spoke of this pregnant woman tree. We were curious and we are not sure how it got its name. It is the photo with the tree that fell on the school bus 50 yrs ago during Hurricane David. I wonder if anyone else can work out the name!
Finally, we had a walk around the cute town (similar to St Thomas) and went to the International Sports ground where they hope the West Indies will one day play Australia. It was quite funny, these locals - who speak English, French and Creole, knew more about Australia than the Americans (and half of them don’t even have TVs!)
Tomorrow we are heading to Barbados… Until then.
