The beginingRemoval of the old historical camp of the Armour family. Site for our house. Oct 2007
This is my first experience with a "blog" something I never thought I'd do, but after increasing pressure from family and friends I thought I would pull my finger out and create one and of course I could not let Ethan beat me to it. So here goes.....enjoy!
Lots of you already know the story from the begining so I will try to briefly summarize the story. My husband Trevor and I, made the decision to uproot our two children, Ethan and Rhiann from a great life in England. Ethan aged 10 and Rhiann 6 years old. Surrounded by my wonderfully supportive sisters, father and of course all our friends it was an extremely hard thing to do. Today I can not believe that we actually did it! We sold our pretty cottage, packed all our possesions and our beloved pick up truck into a container and headed off 5,000 miles away to a hidden island in the Caribbean called Dominica (not the Dominican Republic) to a small village called Calibishie... Our intention was to build a home, apartments and a boxing gym (to keep Trevor out of trouble). We rented a house which was idealy located, a few yards
away from our plot. Our building work commenced, a house and lodges were starting to rise from the ground. Trevor became involved in training and was asked to take the national team to Trinidad for the pre-Olympic qualifier. During this time our plans came crashing down around us and we were left sitting in a house that did not belong to us which was costing us thousands of US dollars - what had we got ourselved into?
To cut a long story short the following year June 2007 we sold a portion of our land which contained the start of the lodges to a couple from the States, Jennie and Philip. Jennie and Philip decided to move to Dominica to relax and just chill out. So, from then we started building the lodges (again)!. As of last week the building was completed, furnished out and rented out - thanks Jennie!!!!! The troubles, stress, arguements and all the horrible things that go along with building, we had it all. However we came through it and have a fantastic business to show for it.
Thanks to Kate and Andy for dropping everything to help on the last day to get
Big dayThank god, I can use my coffee press now !!!!
the place ready. Thanks to Alicia (for many days of sneaking around the island, jumping out of the truck, cutting plants & flowers) to all my friends for help and moral support, coffee mornings, wine afternoons, wine nights, rum nights. BBQ's, and all the fun we had in the middle of a terrible time - thank you (you know who you are) x
So now the boring story is partly over with, we should hopefully have a bit of fun - oh, I forgot we have to start on the house now and then the gym!
First Christmas With no Christmas tree in sight we had to decorate a fan! I doubt even the local people result to such drastic measures.....
Living in a warehousewe moved into the lower area of our house (will be a self contained apartment one day). No paint, no tiles just water and electricity. We had too many boxes to store so we created a dividing wall -
... [more]

Well why would you give up a life in ENGLAND to go the Sun, Sand and ? One can only assume its ENGLISH eccentricity at its best. No more grey skies, rainy days and Chav land to die for........ So, not much money, a half decent vision and courage of lions followed a yellow brick road to Dominica.......we never doubted you - only worried endlessley, lectured you until you cried and cried, (and we all cried) ... champagne journey to the airport........... we expected no less and to say we are very proud (and broke - don't you know there's a RECESSION in the rest of the world!!!) is just an incredible understatement......... by the way, these are the words of the Pagets, Ossie's and Nerheads reflecting on your and our lives over a glass (bottles) of red!!!!!!! We're not jealous, peeved or running round life blue ***** flies - Just keep the spare room vacant AT ALL TIMES......... God bless you and enjoy the fruits of your labour -- we all miss you very much xxxxxxxxx
