So, early morning. Thought I'd tackle the town, I left the hostel with a few destinations in mind and some road names scribbled on paper. Feeling feisty I hit the road, however my I quickley realized that the roads aren't clearly marked and I had no idea where I was in a matter of minutes. But when in doubt...just keep walking! So I just weaved up and down streets looking around, found lots of parks and interesting shops. I kept my headphones in my ears so I could easily ignore the screeches from shop owners. Somewhere along the way in my journey I took a wrong turn and before I knew it I was heading down a not so savory road. People were laying all over the sidewalks and I had to walk in the road. There was garbage everywhere and some very strange things were being yelled out. Buuuut I just kept on trucking and eventually got back to sidewalks with people who were walking up-right and not gawking at the tall white girl.

With that snafu behind me I decided to be a little more careful about where I turned and got serious about my destinations, the main one being the post office. I sat on a patch of grass outside a museum and found my coordinates and oritated myself. 4 short blocks later I was in the heat of it, bustling San Jose, after walking around the same block for a short while I found the damn post office. Using my steller gringo spanish I manged to get a handful of stamps so I can now post letters home and abroad. From there I managed to find my way to the AM/PM convenience store around the corner from the hostel, bought a cold orange fanta, and went back to my room to collapse.

A very short while later I ran into some folks from the night before and they asked if I wanted to go back into town, thinking that I may have a better time with a group of people I graciously accepted and backed my bag to go. We did have a good time, we went back to the post office and to the Children's Museum where we over stayed our welcome and were asked to leave. Had some lunch, stopped at a decent super market, and returned once again to the hostel. Not too bad for one day...

For tomorrow. I have an interview at 10am at an agency to become an English teacher and after that I'll roam around finding some other agencies that the front desk man has told me about. Then send some emails and maybe go for a swim...

Costa Rica is a Central American success story: since the late 19th century, only two brief periods of violence have marred its democratic development. Although still a largely agricultural country, it has expanded its economy to include strong techn...more info
