TamborWaiting for the bus in Puntarenas to Monteverde at a local soda
Woke up at 5 am to catch the 6am bus out of Mal Pais and into Cabano. There I would take another bus to Tambor and to the ferry station. The ferry takes 1.5 hours but the entire trip just to get to the ferry is about 3 hours. The roads are sometimes so bad you need a 4x4 but we were lucky even with such heavy rain last night the bus made it out of Mal Pais.
I arrived at the port of Puntarenas which is a transitional town. I waited at the local bus stop and the firework began.
I ordered some vendor food from this lady and she didnīt have change. My spanish is getting abit better or maybe itīs an improved mind reading ability and reading body language but she basically motion someone would get change.
After my quick lunch the change had not arrived. But after some 101 spanish with her I managed to communicate with her where is my change. I guess she must of forgotten and she giggled. All is good and we shared a chuckle.
My bus would not arrive for another 4 hours so I sat around and
cahuitaon of the trails in Cahuita that hugs the beach. The trek is 2 kms in the morning.
hung out with the locals at the bus stop.
Some bum was sleeping to my left and directly behind me was this guy trying to sell a machette to some other local.
Then another local chap tried to practice his english on me and ask me a bunch of questions starting at where I am from and what are the names of all my family member.
Then he asked in spanish if i was married, have kids etc.
Since I replied with no to all of them he made a jingle motion with his right hand which I interpret maybe he is asking if i was gay. Just to be save I replied with no again.
So after the 101 lession in spanish I thought hell letīs walk around town and explore. The 45 lb bag and the heat makes it tough to cover too much ground. I saw a local bar and I was so tempted to go inside but then thought to myself the last time i did that I almost missed my flight in thailand and had to be carried into the airport almost by the taxi driver.
Plus I inherited
a bunch of booze from Botvid and now was carrying 3 bottles of rum.
Itīs another 2 hours before the bus comes and now I am blogging at some corner store with internet. Everything slows down when you travel. I never know what the day or time is unless I need to to catch buses.
I also find when you travel itīs quite fun taking all the local buses and eating at the local sodas (cafes). You meet so many intersting people for better or worst but it makes the trip that much more enjoyable.
Costa Rica in low season is unlike other places I have been to such as Thailand. Low season in Asia is probably high season here. When itīs low season you are pretty much the only gringo walking around.
mal paisThis was taking back at Mal Pais on the way to Santa Teresa. Thereīs alot more going on there
